IKF World Champ
Bobby Campbell
Defends WKA Title

On Saturday November 21st at St. Joesph's College Bobby "Jackhammer" Campbell, the current IKF and WKA World Champion took on English challenger Shawn "Boom Boom" Burton. On the the line was Campbell's WKA World Title Belt and the vacant PKF World Title Belt.

Burton, who has an impressive record of 34-6, with 19 wins coming by way of KO, flew in from England on Thursday night determined to take the two World Title Belts back to Britain.

Round one saw Burton throwing hard round kicks to Campbell's body. Campbell using his superior skills on the inside was able to nullify the majority of Burton's kicks.

Round two saw more of the same with Campbell gaining an edge with his body attack.

Round three saw Campbell able to unleash several vicious body shots to Burton's liver which quickly dropped Burton to the mat. Burton made the count and was up at 8 but Campbell immediately attacked Burton's body with a spinning back kick, followed by another hook to the body which dropped Burton again.

Round four, Campbell attacks Burton's head and body, throwing both hands and kicks with great power, dropping Burton again. Burton, being the tough fighter he is, shows heart and gets to his feet. Campbell gets Burton in the corner and throws a five punch combination to the body and head which dropped Burton to the canvas for the final time as the referee waves off the fight.

Congratulations to IKF World Champion Bobby Campbell who now holds World Titles in "Three" organizations.
We look forward to seeing him in the ring again soon!

Results Thurles Kickboxing Club's
"International Full Contact Kickboxing"
November 21st, 2009 - Thurles Sarsfields Centre, Ireland

IKF Promoter Pat John Mc Coole put on a top class night of Kickboxing action on Saturday night at the Sarsfields GAA Club in Thurles and enjoyed a packed house of enthusiastic fight fans. The headline fights were for two major IKF Titles and they proved to be worth the admission price alone as they were absolute crackers and had the crowd on their feet throughout.

The first title fight was for the Official IKF All Ireland Ladies Bantamweight Kickboxing Crown and this was contested by Galways Whitney Huish and Joleen Riley from Thurles. This was an intense battle between two very determined young ladies and it went the full championship distance with Huish taking the judges decision on this occasion but there are already talks of a rematch possibly in Galway in 2010.

The main event was for the Junior IKF 5 Nations Straw-weight Title between All Ireland Champion Eddie Barnaville from Thurles and British Champion Jordan Frost from Newark, England. This fight was definitely a candidate for fight of the year as both young men showcased the sport of kickboxing at its very best with no quarter given nor asked but it was the game young Irishman that shone in the eyes of the judges and Eddie Barnaville from Thurles is the new Junior IKF Straw-weight 5 Nations Champion.

Here are all the nights results below.

  1. Jack Dowling (Kilkenny Top-Pro)
defeated Michael Scully (Thurles) by decision, 20-18, 20-18, 20-18.

defeated Anthoney Cooney (Thurles) as Cooney hurt his knee and was unable to continue.

  7. Stephen O' Driscoll (Thurles)
defeated Cathal Greaney (Galway) by TKO in round 3 due to excessive bleeding from Greaney's nose.

  8. Owen Condon (Kilkenny Top-Pro)
defeated James Phillips by unanimous decision - 29-28, 29-28, 29-28.

  9. Andy O Connor (Thurles)

  10. Dylan O Connor (NIMA, Lismore)
defeated Evan Walker (Global, Dublin) by TKO in round 2
    • Walker is medically suspended from fighting for 45 days until January 1st, 2010.

defeated Robert Mackey (Thurles) by unanimous decision, 30-28, 30-27, 30-27.

The Official IKF Full Contact Kickboxing promotion in the 4 star Woodlands Hotel, Waterford was another huge success for Waterfords Top Promoter Mr. Pat Rockett of the Pat Rockett Waterford Karate & Kickboxing Academy.

The show had it all... Smoke machines, beautiful ring girls, video screens, top class trophies, packed house with standing room only, excellent MC, well matched fights with completely neutral referees & judges for all the bouts and a little bit of contraversy at the end which was quickly nipped in the bud by the professional door staff and the crowd certainly got their moneys worth.

A bit of a late start to accomodate the queue of spectators who in fairness had paid good money to get in and were entitled to see the full fight card but this was quickly overlooked as the quality of the fights was excellent and no complaints from anyone. The main event between Waterfords Keith Whelan and Kilkennys Myles Price was for the Official IKF All Ireland (AM FCR) Middleweight Title and it certainly lived up to all expectations and showed just why these two warriors are Irelands top middleweights. The fight was fast paced and both men seemed to want it at close quarters which made for a lot of in close boxing and stepping off to unload kicks. Although Whelan was ahead on the scorecards it was Price who took the win. In the final round, the two men were tied up and the referee told them to step off and work out of it. This was what Price did and then he offloaded a superb roundhouse kick which landed square on Whelans Jaw at 53 seconds into the round and knocked him out to take the title!

The nights results are below the winning photo.

K-1 Superstar
Ernesto Hoost
Visits
Ireland

K-1 Living Legend Ernesto Hoost was in Galway, Ireland earlier this month giving a seminar on his own particular style of fighting which saw him win no less than four K1 Heavyweight Grand Prix's worth something in the region of €1,000,000 each in prize money and sponsorship deals.

The Dutch Superstar Hoost is the only fighter on the planet to win the grand prix four times in front of an estimated 80,000 spectators live at the Budokan Dome, Tokyo (where a certain Mr. Mike Tyson was dethroned) and televised to hundreds of millions of people worldwide.

Galways own Superstar Cathal Manning, who fights the IKF World Lightheavyweight Champion Ashley Collins for his title in England on November 29th was at the seminar and sparred with Hoost ahead of his big title bid. More Kickboxing news at www.blackdragon.ie

  1. AMATEUR KICKBOXING EXHIBITION
    Isaac Chung
& Bradey Laamanen did a 3 round exhibition bout. Very exciting action to start the evening out.

  2. AMATEUR KICKBOXING
    Jamie McDermid
    vs Chris Shorrock
McDermid was coming out of a 3 year retirement but it didn't look like it. He dominated with great punch and kick combinations. Shorrock showed he has a strong heart and a strong chin but in the end it was all McDermid winning all 3 rounds.
WINNER: Jamie McDermid by unanimous decision.

  3. AMATEUR KICKBOXING
    Trisha Sammons
    vs Stacey Chung
Chung showed her ring experience and dominated all 3 rounds, landing her punches at will, especially her straight right hand.
    WINNER: Stacey Chung

  4. IKF AMATEUR FCR LIGHTWEIGHT WORLD TITLE
    Sean Cumiskey
    vs Jordan Allen
This bout was the nights Main Event! The word kick is in front of boxing for the obvious reasons in the sport of KICKBOXING! With that in mind Jordan Allen dominated Sean Cumiskey with kicks throughout the entire bout. Cumiskey seemed to sometimes confuse Allen with his somewhat unorthodox fighting. He was throwing wide punches that were landing at times, but not enough to win the bout. Although in control most of the bout, Allen looked frustrated at times and managed to land several well timed spinning back fists, but with no effect on Cumiskey. Allen landed the more cleaner and sharper punches and landed more effective kicks. This was one of Allen's toughest fights of his carrier and he prevailed to become an IKF Amateur World Kickboxing Champion. My hat in off to Sean Cumiskey for his gallant and determined fight game.
WINNER: Jordan Allen by unanimous decision, 48-46, 47-46 & 48-46.
