By Jose Ruben GOMEZ BERNAL "Matanchen"
Puerto Vallarta has a new National Amateur Featherweight Champion in Muay Thai, Marcos "Niño" Mota.
For 5 round, Marcos "Niño" Mota physically battered Paul "Abusivo" Diaz. "El Niño" sent him to the canvas with a leg kick and from that moment on "Abusivo" felt the precision and punch of el Niño! From the first round Mota was a beast, as Diaz surprised him with an elbow to the back, Mota stayed to his game and was relentless on the offensive.

Diaz never backed down but it was clear after he felt a few of Niño's strikes, he took precautions. In the fourth round Diaz was sent back to the canvas completely limp, but bravely continued to the last minutes of combat. The decision of the judges was a mere formality. When it was officially announced the fans that came to watch this great fight at the Collage Club Greeted the announcement with a standing ovationas Marcos (Niño) Mota, from Puerto Vallarta was clearly the Champion.

Mr. Jorge Alcaraz, on behalf of Felix "El Torito"Perez, of IKF in Mexico,
and the Commission President Manuel Galindo,
put the IKF title Belt on the new
IKF Mexico National Amateur Muay Thai Champion
"Niño" Mota.

"BUDITA" RUIZ showed progress! It seemed that Marcos "The Russian" Blanca would give him a hard time at the start. However "Budita" endured some kicks and knocked Blanca out in the second round. Good triumph of Budita "Ruiz, and indeed a salute to his grandfather, Kaliman Ruiz, who long pushed children's soccer in Puerto Vallarta

    Noe (El Destroyer) Mota
Puerto Vallarta, (Motas Gym, Manager Odilion Mota)
defeated Jonathan Cervantes Puerto Vallarta, (Muay Thai Club, Manager Jorge Estrada) by Unanimous Decision.
    DESTROYER OVER JONATHAN CERVANTES.
This fight promised to be sensational! And yes, the best of the evening!
A big fight in the rematch was expected as in their previous bout, Noe "The Destroyer"Cervantes won by a unanimous decision in three rounds. This time out, "Destroyer" and Cervantes did not mince words from the openning bell. In round 1, Noah landed 2 kicks on Cervantes and shook him up. However he absorbed quite well by demonstrating good preparation, because the blows were hard! In rounds 2 and 3 things were going Noah's way as he won the fight unanimously, which was much celebrated by the women's club that accompanied the Vallertense.

  9. IKF PRO MUAY THAI - 65 Kilos
    Francisco Galaviz
(Jorge Vaca Gym, Manager Jorge Vaca)
defeated Jando Lopez Puerto Vallarta, (Muay Thai Club, Manager Jorge Estrada) by KO at 1:45 of round 2.
    A WILD KO by Galavis!
In the second headliner a great demonstration of power was given by Francisco Galaviz, a pupil of former world champion Jorge Vaca from Guadalajara. For Francisco it is logical that having a trainer/manager such as Jorge Vaca, bases its actions on boxing in what was far superior to that of Jando's. "Jando" tried to get back into the fight but Galavis made sure it did not happen. In the first round Galaviz sent Lopez to the canvas with a left cross to the chin. At this moment, the fight took its course as Galavis was dominant in the second round and landed a cross on"Jando" chin that sent him to the canvas a second and final time as Galaviz dispatched Alejandro (Jando) Lopez from Vallarta in the second round.

  10. David (El Azteca) Mota (Motas Gym) VS Alex El Diablito (Oriente Thaiboxing, Manager Toño Castañeda )
    STAR FIGHT WITHOUT DECISION
This was to be an outstanding bout as David "El Azteca" Mota and Alex El Diablito of Aguascalientes were matched and ready to go. However the fight was stopped in the second round when in a "clinch" against ropes, "El Azteca" fell to the ring. The fall flared up a muscle spasm and he could not continue.
Chairman of the Committee and Contact Sports Box, Manuel Galindo Nolasco, the regulation says that if the fight has not been more than half the rounds fought, is cancelled. When you go in the third round, it goes to the cards to determine the winner. In this case the fall was accidental, so they cancelled the fight. "El Azteca" left with a right cut above the eyebrow.

Results From Sam Phimsoutham's
"LEGENDS" BATTLE IN THE BAY
May 21st, 2011 - San Francisco, California, USA

If you have been involved in the Muay Thai fight World within California, chances are you know exactly who Kru Sam (Right - Phimsoutham) is. Years ago it was easy to spot him with his long and sleek pony tail that stretched to his waist. At first glance you thought you were looking at some Martial Arts movie star. However Kru Sam is known for much more than that long pony tail he sported years ago. He has been a trainer of Champions for years in both amateur and professional kickboxing and Muay Thai. He has sought out opportunities for his fighters and travelled the world with them to achieve their many goals of someday becoming a Champion.

Muay Thai is a lifestyle with Kru Sam and his well known World Team USA - www.WorldTeamUSA.com. His fighters have been fighting on IKF Sanctioned events for years now and taking home a good portion on IKF Gold back to their World Team USA Headquarters in San Francisco, California. However, this past weekend, Kru Sam found himself on the other side of the production as well as he and his World Team USA Crew hosted "LEGENDS" BATTLE IN THE BAY at the well known Asian Heritage Street Celebration in downtown San Francisco.

As in the past, over 100,000 people crowded the streets this year and although 100,000 could not fit at ringside, what we can say was there wasn't an empty seat available. Kru Sam and his team featured 11 exciting Muay Thai bouts and 1 Pro MMA bout. His plans were to feature a total of 15 Amateur Muay Thai bouts but problems setting up the fight ring forced a late start of the event that had to be over by 6:PM so the streets could re-open.

On the card was 4 IKF title bouts and all 4 held up to their proposed Title Excitement! Of them included what was planned to be the day's main event. However, due to the timing, all the title bouts were held in the middle of the show to assure they would take place. In the main event bout, Kru Sam's own Kevin Arceo (San Francisco, California, USA, 10-2/0) battled against Nick Baletera (Sacramento, California, USA, 7-4, AMMA: 5-2, AB: 1-1) for the vacant IKF Amateur Full Rules Muay Thai Rules Welterweight United States Title. In round 1 it looked to be Baletera's title to lose. He cut Arceo over the eye and clearly won the round. However, for some reason Baletera seemed to ease off in rounds 2, 3 and 4 which allowed Arceo to take the judges nod. In round 5 Baletera came back hard, but it was too little, too late after giving away the middle rounds as Arceo took the title home by unanimous decision, 48-47 on all 3 judges cards.

Brandon Del Gaudio, also from Kru Sams in San Francisco (5-0/1) shocked the crowd in his title bout. What appeared to be a fight well under his opponent, Edward Mukhamedshen (Richmond, California, USA, 5-1/0, AB: 10-0) control, Del Gaudio threw an explosive combination of hands and dropped Mukhamedshen. After an 8 count, Del Gaudio went right on the attack again and seconds later, Del Gaudio found himself standing over his knocked out opponent, 1:19 of round 3. Del Gaudio proudly took home the vacant IKF Amateur Full Rules Muay Thai Light Heavyweight West Coast Title.

With the vacant IKF Amateur Modified Rules Muay Thai Super Lightweight California Title on the line Steve Tamayo (Dublin, California, USA, 5-0/2) faced off against Benjie Bernardino (Hayward, California, USA, 3-2/1) From start to finish Tamayo set the pace and kept control and seemed to be on his way to an obvious unanimous decision victory. However when the judges cards were read, the good news was he did indeed take home the title, however it was by split decision. Judges Bruce Rassmussen & Susan Thomas-Gitlin scored the bout 40-36, 40-36 while judge Marshall Walker scored it 37-39 for Bernardino. All unofficial IKF scorecards at ringside had the bout 40-36 for Tamayo. Regardless, Tamayo was crowned the new IKF Amateur Modified Rules Muay Thai Super Lightweight California Champion.

The last of the 4 IKF title bouts featured Jesus Sosa (Oakland, California, USA, 6-2/1) and well known Gaston Balanos (San Ramon, California, USA, 7-3-1) for the vacant IKF Amateur Full Rules Muay Thai Super Lightweight California Title. This was not Balonos' first quest for an IKF Title. In October of last year he faced Daniel Hodges (Rocklin, California, USA, 4-1-1) in a rematch against Hodges for the IKF Amateur Modified Muay Thai Rules California Welterweight Title. The two had previously met in July of last year and that bout ended in a majority draw, 39-37 Bolanas, 38-38 & 38-38. When the smoke cleared in their October rematch, Hodges had defeated Balanos by majority decision, 47-46, 50-45 and 47-37.

On this day Balanos was on the hunt for the IKF Gold that has slipped away now twice. The first two rounds seemed to be strong rounds for both fighters as the two exchanged blow after blow. However it was in the third that saw the hammer come crashing down on Balanos' dreams for a title that was looking to be his as Sosa landed a shot that Knocked Balanos out at :26 seconds of round 3. Sosa took home the vacant IKF Amateur Full Rules Muay Thai Super Lightweight California Title.

By the end of the event it was clear that Kru Sam and his Team had to be proud of their work, as were the many fans who were able to see some of the best Muay Thai action around. With Kru Sam's efforts, he and other California IKF Promoters such as AK Promotions' Johnny Davis have made it clear that "Stand Up" fighting is without a doubt on a resurgence after the explosion of MMA the last few years. Sell out crowds are now common on many of the IKF Kickboxing & Muay Thai events as more and more fight fans want to see stand-up fighting. We look forward to more exciting IKF Events like this one and we hope to be ringside at next years Asian Heritage Street Celebration with Kru Sam again! Great work Everyone!

"IKF Fight Night"
May 21st, 2011 - Waterford, Ireland

IKF Promoter Mr. Billy O' Sullivan put on a first class Full Contact Kickboxing Event in the Bridge Hotel, Waterford this past weekend. On the night were 14 well matched fights that entertained the almost full ballroom of enthusiastic fight fans. 10. IKF JUNIOR AMATEUR MODIFIED MUAY THAI
    SOUTH WEST REGIONAL TITLE

Jesse "The Beast" Duran, (Golden Cobra, Cottonwood, Arizona, USA, 136, 15)
VS Abel Alhambra, (Healthy Kicks, Imperial Beach, California, USA, 132, 15)
    1. Round 1: Both fighters showed they came to win this title. Alhambra hit Duran with a good hand and foot combo and just when it looked like he had the upper hand, Duran came back very hard with hand and feet combo's. At the end of the flurry Duran did a spinning back fist, but the elbow landed on the bridge of the nose of Alhambra. The Elbow hurt Alhambra bad and Duran saw that and jumped on his opponent not knowing his elbow did the damage. After some good combo's, referee Jere Grimes stopped the match for the doctor to check Alhambra. He had a big cut across the bridge of his nose.
      The fight was stopped.
From ringside we saw the elbow land. We went to see the video replay and saw the same thing.
Since the accidental injury happened in round 1, this bout was ruled a No Contest.
It looked like a start of a great championship fight. We need to see a Rematch!

At the end of the event we gave out an Outstanding Fighter Award.
The winner of this award was Rachael Padila for her TKO win. She surely will be a Future Champion.
I would like to thank Richard Williams the promoter of this great event.
It was very well run and he took very good care of all of us.
I've got one thing to ask to Mr. Williams. When is the next event, I would love to be here again.

Results From Pete Foley's
"IKF Fight Night"
May 7th, 2011 - Menlo Park, Ireland

The Menlo Park Hotel, Galway was the place to be on Saturday night when Black Dragon Promotions put on a top class IKF Officially Sanctioned show featuring Full Contact Kickboxing & K-1 bouts at its very best. The show had a few problems with some last minute pull outs but the quality of the bouts on offer more than made up for it and the fight fans certainly got their moneys worth. Ken Horan was to fight Simon Moynihan in what should have been an epic battle between two of the former greats of Irish kickboxing but a lack of communication saw the fight fall through and a disappointed Ken had trained so hard for nothing only finding out at the weigh ins.

Current IKF Junior Amateur All Ireland & 5 Nations Light Welterweight Champion Charlie Ward who won the Irish title in Galway in May 2010 and made a successful 1st defence in Kilkenny last October and then went on to win the IKF 5 Nations Title by TKO in March this year was due to fight K-1 rules against a Thai Boxer from Cork. However the fight fell through with the Cork fighter being injured.

Bryan Merrigan was also due to fight a Cork Thai boxer but this fight was also pulled due to the Corkman hurting his back. Recently crowned IKF World Champion Cathal Manning was due to fight Richard Beale from Waterford but Beale announced his retirement a few days before the event. With all of these quality fights now off the card one would wonder how the event could go ahead but several of the fights that went ahead could have headlined any show anywhere.

The Darryl Orr & Gary Giles fight was the stuff of legend and will be talked about for some time to come in Irish Kickboxing circles as both men gave their all. In the end, Darryl took a close majority decision on this occasion. Leona Trautt showed serious potential in her first outing against tough Laois girl Rachel Ryan. Trautt earned a unanamous points victory much to the delight of her army of fans. Dylan Casey pulled off a great win over Limericks Dan O' Connor and the decision was also unanamous. Martin Murray drew with Corks Ryan Keane in an exciting K-1 rules bout and Mike Bannon took a majority decision over Dubliner Evan Walker in a tough but technichal K-1 bout. Alex Novac beat Polish native Woijtek Tomaschevsko, also fighting out of Spartans Muay Thai camp in Cork in one of the most entertaining fights of the night by unanamous decision under K-1 Rules. Eric Daly defeated Donegals Chris Coyle by unanamous decision in another classic K-1 rules battle.

Wins IKF World Title
In Full 12 Round Battle!

The Main event of Mike Lind's "Rumble In The Valley" had pretty much everything associated with the fight game connected to it. It started with the loss of proposed featured World Title contender Bill Jardine dropping out of the World Title fight on March 22nd. The IKF and Lind thought they had a credible replacement to battle top ranked World Title contender Marlon Hunt of England in TJ Gibson. Things looked promising for Gibson as a replacement contender against Hunt so all was a GO! At this time Hunt had suggested the title be changed from the Light Heavyweight title to the vacant Light Cruiserweight (179.1 lbs - 186) World title to make it easier for Gibson to make the weight. Gibson who also does Pro Boxing was already ranked in the Light Cruiserweight division but always comes down from Cruiserweight or Heavyweight for his fights. Both agreed and again another green light was given.

However a few days later, Lind was informed Gibson could not take the fight due to a Boxing bout contract he had for a fight on May 20th against Ray Edwards at the Grand Casino in Hinckley, Minnesota. So back to work Lind went in trying to secure yet a third contender for Hunt. Enter IKF Pro United States Super Middleweight (165.1 lbs. - 172) Champion Randy Pogue. Pogue had not been very active at all since winning his IKF Title on July 8th, 2005 in Kansas City, Missouri when he defeated John JJ Barnes of Kansas City, Missouri, USA by TKO at end of round 4 due to head kick. At 41 years old, there was a question whether or not this was a good decision for Pogue of Atlanta, Georgia, USA. Throughout his fighting career he had fought in virtually every full contact fight sport. His records in them included a Pro Kickboxing record of 20-5-1/4, a quick stint in Chuck Norris's short lived World Combat League. A Pro Boxing record of 8-9-2/2, a win in his only Pro MMA bout and of course, an extensive amateur career where he compiled a record of 15-1 with 6 KO's.

On the other side of the ring would be not just a fighter nearly 10 years younger, but one who had already acquired "7" Pro World Titles on his way to an outstanding Pro Kickboxing record of 35-1 with 16 KO's. Hunt built his impressive Pro career after he had accomplished an Amateur Kickboxing career that would be the envy of any fighter! As an Amateur kickboxer he compiled a record of 48-2 with 32 wins coming by Knockout. Hunt is a fighter with a Room Full of Title Belts, and a resume of accomplishments that "Should" make ANY Fighter think twice. Adding to this, once he took his shirt off at the event weigh-ins, many just paused and said, "Oh Crap! I feel for Pogue..."

However it wasn't just wins Hunt had acquired over the years. He won the WFKKO Cruiserweight World Pro Title back on August 19th, 2006 in Te Awamatu, New Zealand when he defeated New Zealander Brad Johansson over 12 Rounds. He also won the WFKKO Super Cruiserweight World Title on March 9th, 2008 in Sheffield, England when he defeated ISKA World Champion Waine Turner over 12 Rounds.

His list of accomplishments also included winning the WAKO Pro Light Cruiserweight World Title in Doncaster, England on June 29th, 2008 when he defeated World Muay Thai Champion Christian Di Paolo over 12 Rounds. However, he didn't just sit on this title. This past February 23rd he went to Chelyabinsk, Russia to defended it against Russian Sergei Bogdan. Although he lost the bout, the reality here is, he didn't just "Sit" on it like a lot of Kickboxing Champions do in todays world.

In October of 2008 he won both the WKBC & GOLDENBELT Light Heavyweight World Title in Ipswich Suffolk, England when he defeated Benoit Bourhis over 12 Rounds. In March of 2009 he won the ISKA Light Heavyweight World Title in Ipswich, Suffolk, England over 2 time World Champion Lukas Wolf over 12 Rounds. In June of 2010 he won the WKA Light Heavyweight World Title, again in Ipswich, Suffolk, England when he defeated World Champion Robert Cassells, again, over 12 Rounds. He already has plans for June 10th when he will be fighting for the WKN World title against French champion Jean Luc Benoist.

So did anyone notice a pattern here that Pogue possibly did? Lots of World Title wins, but none by TKO or KO. Pogue also knew very well someone who had defeated Hunt when he was an amateur, Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson. Whether or not Pogue discussed any proposed strategy of the bout with Thompson, no one has said. However what we can say is that Pogue didn't just have a gameplan for Hunt... It was a gameplan that almost won him the IKF World Title over the highly favored Hunt.

Well some may have been saying "Oh Crap! I feel for Pogue..." There was one person for sure in the room that was saying, "Oh Crap! I feel for HUNT!" that person was "The Professor" himself, Randy Pogue!
Pogue had something with him that very few in the fight game ever figure out...Sure, like every seasoned Champion he had Experience. But more so, Pogue came to the dance on this night, as he always has, with outstanding "Fight Intelligence!" There's a reason Pogue's nickname has been "The Professor", and Hunt himself was about to find out just how Pogue was able to put together a "Masterful" game plan and quiet all the doubters that simply matched up the 3 "A's" for this bout which were Age, Abs and Accomplishments.

Enough of the TALK, lets get to the action!

IKF PRO FULL CONTACT RULES
LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT WORLD TITLE

Marlon Hunt (Suffolk, England, P: 36-1/16, A: 48-2/32, 174.6 5'10", 12-1-78, Rogier, (+31623229252) )
VS
Randy Pogue (Atlanta, Georgia, USA, PK: 20-6-1/4, Pro Team: 0-1/0, AK: 15-1/6, Pro Boxing: 8-9-2/2, - P/MMA: 1-0, 5'10", 175, 11-14-69, Self, (610) 715-3722)

ROUND 1
Within "Seconds", and we mean "Seconds" as in like 10-15 seconds, Hunt proved his power to Pogue as he threw and landed a "Thunderous" right leg round kick on Pogue's arm directly in front of us. EVERYONE in the room expressed the exact same thing we did, "Holy Crap Batman!" The kick was one of, if not "THE LOUDEST" we have EVER heard land on a body. This includes the mighty kicks we have seen and heard from top Thai Fighters! This thing was THUNDER! It made many of us wonder, "With kicks that powerful, how is Hunt NOT Knocking out his recent opponents?" However to everyone's surprise, Pogue simply took it in stride, as if it were just an extra large speed bump on his way to the finish line. What none of us really knew though was what kind of damage this Thundering kick did to Pogue, only "Seconds" into the fight. And neither did he.

For whatever reasons, Hunt didn't press the fight too hard in round 1. We truly thought he would take advantage of his favoritism and come out with an exploding attack, much like we were use to seeing from former IKF Heavyweight Full Contact World Champion Dennis Alexio! (Talk about a Full Contact Fighter we TRULY loved to watch and Truly miss...) Pogue on the other hand was simply methodical... Picking and choosing his shots as if he was simply scoring points, and we don't mean that in a bad way.

As round 1 ended, Pogue clearly won the kick count 14-6. Lucky for Hunt the IKF no longer has the kick count rule. However this of course made Referee Dan Stell go to Hunt's corner and warn him if he missed the kicks in round 2, points would indeed be taken. On the judges cards, two of them must have been scoring for the "Shock and Awe" and not for the obvious "Points" we saw Pogue scoring and both gave the opening round to Hunt, 10-9 while the other judge gave it to Pogue, 10-9.

Now keep in mind this was scheduled for "12" Rounds. We could go through our notes and inform you of the high's and lows of every round but instead, we will just hit the important notes. Total kick count, round scores and accumulated scores. With this being said, here's the bout rundown...

Watching from Ringside, it just didn't seem like either fighter had the other in any imminent danger of being knocked out. Although Hunt dropped Pogue with the side kick, Pogue shook it off and jumped right back up. What impressed us about Hunt was obvious to everyone in the room. He seemed to press when he needed to and threw just enough to win the rounds he did. However, sitting ringside, we were able to witness what pretty much everyone else in the room seemed to miss. The strategy Pogue had worked out with his cornerman Jason Schear Throughout the bout Schear would shout various strategic words that would command Pogue that it was time to impalement a certain strategy. The plan got more and more impressive to us at ringside as the fight moved forward. Others in Pogue's corner included experienced trainer Justin Whiley and multi time IKF Champion Chris Cichon.

When the scores were tallied it was Hunt who took home the IKF Gold this time by unanimous decision, judge Mike Madden had the bout 115-112, judge Jim Bardon had the bout 118-109, and judge Brooks Mason had the bout 116-111. Although we were not in raging disagreement with the decision, we did think the battle was much closer.

As far as the kick count went, after all 12 rounds Hunt had thrown 149 kicks... Pogue who had exploded in rounds 1-6 with 84 kicks ended the battle with a tally of 155.

Something that we noticed was Pogue throwing more kicks and less and less punches as the rounds went on. He seemed to score often with his punch combinations in the early rounds but as the fight moved on, we saw less and less of his hands. On the other hand, we were surprised that we didn't see more "Explosive" power from the chiseled Hunt, especially after the opening round kick he threw in round 1. A kick that made even former IKF World Champion Mike LaBree happy he was retired. Oh and speaking of that kick, What kind of damage did it do? Well, here is where the overall picture of things becomes interesting. Keep in mind that within "Seconds" of round 1, Hunt landed a "Blistering" kick on Pogue's arm that we said was the loudest kick we had ever heard at ringside. After the event was over, Pogue found out that it's possible some of that noise came from.... A Bone Breaking! Now we're not just talking about a slight break, we're talking about a "BROKEN BONE!" How Broken you ask?
Feast your eyes on this X-Ray;

Looking back now it's amazing what Pogue accomplished in 12 rounds. With only "10 Days" notice Pogue went "12 Rounds" with a "7 Time World Champion" who was a full weightclass above his own fight weight. Not only that, Pogue battled for 12 rounds with only 1 arm... And coming from someone who is also a Professional Boxer, it makes you wonder a couple of things... 1, what could Randy have accomplished if he had say a month or two to prepare for this bout? 2, What could Randy have done if BOTH his arms were healthy throughout the bout... Oh, and there is a third thing... What could Randy have done against a contender in "His" own weightclass of Super Middleweight 165.1 lbs. - 172 lbs?

On the flip side, we don't want to down play what Marlon Hunt accomplished. He came to fight and came to take the IKF Title home to England. He didn't do it in his backyard, he traveled across the ocean to "Walk the Walk!" We made an issue about Marlon not knocking out his opponents in his World Title wins. We only brought this up because he had such an impressive KO ratio as an Amateur. What many may fail to see here is that Marlon battled as a True Warrior for "12 Full Rounds" for pretty much EVERY World title he has won. That may even say more than a multi time Champion with a lot of quick knockouts.

As we sum all this up, there are now other questions. Will Randy Pogue be given another IKF World Title shot at 41? "Without a doubt!" Says IKF President Steve Fossum. "Randy showed strength beyond all and proved to us that he is living proof of the saying, 'your as young as you feel!' Randy looked 25 out there and proved he is more deserving than anyone!"

Well, if so, than against who? Who can promote such a Pro World title? Fossum and Referee Dan Stell both feel Randy, if his arm heals and if he wants to fight at this weight again, is more deserving than anyone else in Marlon's first defense. Sure, there is talk of Bill Jardine being given the shot again, but maybe a better decision would be either let Pogue have the shot or have Jardine now prove himself against Pogue? Surly these are just thrown out there ideas, but they are things to think about.

As for Hunt, will he make the move to have his first IKF Title defense on one of his own promotions? This would be the right thing to do since he now holds the title, but does it make more sense "Hosting" his own title defense or being paid what he's worth, if a promoter steps forward, to defend it on another promotion? Defending ones title is not as cut and dry as one may think. To explain further, there's a good piece about this very issue you can read by clicking HERE.

Word on the street is that Hunt is already planning to come back to the USA and make his first defense this fall against the original number 1 contender, Bill Jardine. However there may be a setback to this as Promoter Mike Lind has said he is not sure if he want's to continue with Promoting. If not, one of his sponsors ( SugarDaddyInc) may be willing to step up and host TWO IKF World Titles. One being the Hunt - Jardine bout and the other for Randy Pogue against a top contender in his weight class such as IKF Super Middleweight European Champion Mehdi Lacombe of France or IKF Super Middleweight Commonwealth Champion Craig Bradford of Scotland. The IKF Pro FCR Super Middleweight World title is currently vacant, and waiting for a promoter to host.

The other option may be that Pogue can come down in weight and fight for the IKF Middleweight World title against current Champion John Orchard of England. Regardless, the IKF has clearly determined that even at 41, Randy Pogue has proved he is a top Title Contender who is very deserving of his IKF World title shot. Now all we need is a Promoter to step up and "Walk the Walk" to make it happen.

Great work by Mike Lind and all his staff. As always it was a pleasure seeing our good friend Sky Drysdale as the event ring announcer. The event was well coordinated by Mike's partner, Tom Sullivan who ALWAYS does a Great Job!

ANSWERING THE QUESTION OF
"WEIGHT SPREADS"
For The 2011 IKF World Classic

Over the last few weeks we have been getting a lot of e-mails related to the Weight Classes for this years 2011 IKF World Classic. The main question has been:

"The weight classes this year for the IKF World Classic seem to have some gaps in them.
For example: Men's Welterweight is 143-150lbs and Light Middleweight is 153-160lbs.
I'm just curious if that's a typo or if that's what it's supposed to be?
"

Well, it's not a typo so let us explain it here for you.
In the past, we have always had a 9.9 lb weight spread for the ADULT DIVISIONS. Although our weight spreads for the "Tournament" were always 9.9 lbs., There has NEVER been a spread of weight more than 5 lbs in any division during the IKF Tournaments. Every year, every fighter came in at the TOP of the weight of the weight class. So if a spread was say 140.1 to 150, all the fighters would come in at the top of the division between say 145-150. In that division, none of the fighters ever came in at the lower weight of the division of say, 140.1 to 145. So the question is, WHY was it changed?

Well, the change was not made simply because of the reasoning above. The reasoning above though made it easier for us to abide to some new rules in Florida that could have cost the Tournament another $10 - $15,000 in additional belts and awards for "ADDED" divisions.

This past fall the Florida Commission changed the rules in regards to "Weight Spreads" which made the gaps between the weights much less. When completed, they had "21" weight Divisions where before there was only 14. From this, we had 2 choices;

  1. We could add more weight divisions going from the regular tournament 11 to "21". If we did this, it would add in the following;
This would be the addition of "60" added weightclasses, which would have the potential of adding in "36" more title belts, for JUST the Adult Divisions...
Imagine how many more divisions and belts we would need if we needed to add all this for the Juniors as well... At around $345 per belt, this would be an additional $20, 700.00 for the Adult Divisions ALONE.
If we did this, we would have to be "Prepared" to spend this additional costs for belts, if all the divisions filled up. Of course, the chances of them all filling up are slim and none, but the "Potential" is there. However, if we were to do this, we would need to raise the registration fee from $55 to around $125.00 per fighter at a "Minimum".

  2. The other logical choice we had was what we actually did. We didn't want to raise the fee, so we compromised and did what we did, which in reality, didn't change anything other than the "Perception" of less weight classes, when in reality, we have the same, just less spreads between each one. Hopefully that all makes sense.

We look forward to seeing you all in Orlando!

First Live Fight Event At The Beautiful
Thunder Valley's Casino

In Lincoln, California, USA!

Weeks ago we brought attention to the fact that the Sacramento region was on the verge of losing their Pro Basketball team, the Sacramento Kings. Well, lucky for Sacramento it seems the Kings may end up sticking around for at least another year. However there is better news for the Sacramento region, regardless of the Kings decision. This area will continue to reap the rewards of Championship Muay Thai Kickboxing from fight promoter Johnny Davis' AK Promotions with the help of the officials and overall staff of the IKF

This past Saturday night was the first ever full contact style fighting event at the prestigious Thunder Valley Casino located just outside of the Sacramento region on the outskirts of Roseville, Rocklin and Lincoln. Thunder Valley had been looking at the possibilities of having fight events at their facility for some time now. However, what they don't realize is how blessed they were to have AK Promotions host their first event.

Instead of cutting corners like many other "Indian Casino Fight Promotions" who often appoint their own friends as event officials, AK Promotions contracted with the IKF to handle all sanctioning and regulatory duties to oversee the event for fairness and safety. The combination of an outstanding promotional team provided by AK Promotions and the work of all the IKF Officials on hand made for a VERY Successful night of Championship Muay Thai Kickboxing at Thunder Valley!

Championship Muay Thai Kickboxing is nothing new to AK Promotions and of course, regular work for the IKF Team. AK Promotions has been sanctioning with the IKF since the mid 90's and together they have seen each other grow to worldwide exposure. AK Promotions last several events have been outright sell outs from smaller venue's like Coaches Sports Bar in Rocklin to the largest ballroom at the Double Tree Hotel in Sacramento (Where they will be again on July 1st) Every event has brought back outstanding fighters who have been climbing the IKF rankings and achieving legit IKF Titles. Many of the fighters on Saturdays event along with their fighters have been with AK Promotions and the IKF for Years.

While other Northern California Muay Thai and Kickboxing promoters have fallen away, AK Promotions continues to keep a steady pace of consistent Championship events. With them, the fighters have seen their own success from the many opportunities AK Promotions and the IKF have provided for them. It's a combination that wins for everyone and with many more events planned for AK Promotions the only question is, where will they all be?

Sacramento's Double Tree Hotel has always been one of AK's homes, but other venues are now calling, asking them to bring their Championship success to their hotel or fight venue. If anyone here at the IKF has a say, we would love to work with the staff and facilities at Thunder Valley again and we are sure many would agree. However, that decision is up to AK Promotions and Thunder Valley so we can only hope they will have us back again.

We here at the IKF would like to thank all the outstanding staff of AK Promotions and the staff at Thunder Valley who helped make this outstanding "Sell Out" event a great success. We would also like to point notice to the outstanding group of officials who helped with regulating fighter fairness and safety for this event. Without a doubt we had some of the best officials in the fight business take time from their other schedules to be a part of this event.

Event Referee Dan Stell of Vacaville. Referee and Judge Terry Burton from Fairfield. Marshall Walker from Richmond. Bill Douglas from North Highlands. Timekeeper Velinda Stell from Vacaville. Ringside Physicians Dr. Gary Furness and Dr. Cesar Banda and some guys who took care of fighters in the locker rooms, sacrificing to help them with everything without being able to witness the entire event, Jeff Foley & Sean McCawley who travelled up from Napa, California. The IKF event Representative was IKF President Steve Fossum. All did an outstanding job and we thank you all for your work.

Well, that should cover how great the event was overall, but we are sure you all want to read about the action, so here are the nights results. We also included some words from Craig Baracco of the website, www.QuestionableStoppage.com - His thoughts below will be headlined with the note, QS: Thanks Craig for your write-up of the event!

  10. IKF AMATEUR MUAY THAI RULES
CALIFORNIA SUPER HEAVYWEIGHT (215.1- Above) TITLE

    Xavier Vigney, Pleasant Hill, California, USA, 6-1, 226, 6'7", 21, 4-29-90, Dan Black, (925) 813-0229
    VS Manuel Mancha, Chowchilla, California, USA, 4-2/4, AMMA: 2-0, 268.6, 6'2", 25, 11-6-85, Jeff Baca, (916) 281-7006
WINNER: Xavier Vigney by TKO at 1:17 of round 4.
    • QS: A battle of contrasting body types marked the battle for the IKF California Super Heavyweight as 6'7" Xavier Vigney took on 6'2" 268 lbs Manuel Mancha. Vigney, who is so tall that he enters the ring by stepping over the top rope, had a huge reach advantage and used that advantage to great effect. Mancha was taking repeated punches as he moved forward but proved to have an anvil of a head, pressing gamely forward despite the punishment Vigney was dealing him, including two inadvertent low blows that stopped the action for a time. But in the end, Mancha had no answer for Vigney's reach and referee Dan Stell called the action at 1:17 of the third round. Vigney will challenge Jon "Big Sexy" Hurney for the IKF US Super Heavyweight title at the next AK Promotion event in July.
    • Manuel Mancha has been given a 30 day medical recovery suspension from training and 45 day medical recovery suspension from competition.

  11. IKF AMATEUR MUAY THAI RULES
WEST COAST WELTERWEIGHT (142.1-147) TITLE *DEFENSE

    *Daniel Hodges, Rocklin, California, USA, 6-0-1, AMMA: 0-1, 146.2, 5'9", 24, 3-31-87, Rocklin Kickboxing, (916) 205-4762
    VS Josh San Diego, Milpitas, California, USA, 4-1, 156.6, 5'10, 26, 3-8-85, Rudi Ott, (510) 913-6849
WINNER: Daniel Hodges by split decision, 48-49, 49-46 and 46-49.
    • QS: A close-fought split decision between Daniel Hodges and Josh San Diego for the IKF West Coast Welterweight title. San Diego won the earlier rounds with his evasive fighting style, moving in to land strikes and moving out to evade the counter. But as the fight progressed Hodges was able to trap San Diego in the corners of the ring, doing damage once San Diego ran out of room. The last two rounds belonged to Hodges, with the fight decision coming down to a very close third round. Two of three judges scored the fight for Hodges.
    • Daniel Hodges has been given a 60 day medical recovery suspension due to a cut over his eye caused from an accidental head butt.

  12. IKF AMATEUR MUAY THAI RULES
    SUPER WELTERWEIGHT (147.1-153) WORLD TITLE

    Jon Pryor, Sacramento, California, USA, 7-3, 151.8, 5'7", 21, 11-29-89, Cedric Robinson, (916) 601-9702
    VS Aleksander Naumaski, San Jose, California, USA, 8-3, 152.4, 5'9", 31, 4-2-80, Derek Yuen, (408) 605-0596
WINNER: Jon Pryor by unanimous decision, 48-47, 48-47 and 48-47.
    • QS: The main event of the evening was a tilt between Jon Pryor and Aleksander Naumaski for the vacant IKF Super Welterweight Muay Thai World Title. Each fighter in the match had their strategy and stuck to it through all five rounds. Pryor pressed forward, throwing hooks to body and head. Naumaski looked to tie up Pryor in the clench and score with leg kicks. Pryor clearly looked frustrated by Naumaski's tactics as his trademark power was smothered in the clench and Naumaski's leg kicks continued to land. But Pryor continued to land body blows and after five rounds was able to edge out the victory and claim the title, 48-47 on all three scorecards.

Ed Abasolo

Xavier Vigney AND Manuel Mancha
