IKF Promoter Russ Williams of Wales hosted another great night of British Championship Kickboxing on Sunday Night, June 20th at the Springfield Hotel in North Wales. The main event of the night featured Wales Standout Dylan "The Lumberjack" Williams against Steven Boyd of Ireland. Boyd replaced Williams first opponent Wayne Turner of Woverhampton England who dropped out of the bout weeks before. The bout was for the vacant IKF European Heavyweight Title and was co-sanctioned by WAKO-Pro of Europe.

It didn't take Williams long to make a point as the 6'2" Williams jumped on the smaller Boyd (5'10") with Dennis Alexio like Heavyweight Speed and never gave Boyd a chance to get started. Williams delivered a picture perfect turnback side kick that landed into the lower ribs of Boyd at only 25 seconds into the opening round. Boyd dropped to the canvas and was unable to continue as IKF International Referee John Blackledge of England stopped the contest. Williams improved to 17-2-1 with 12 KO's while Boyd dropped to 6-3. Some have already suggested a possible bout between Williams 27 and IKF World Heavyweight Champion Dennis Alexio but we'll just have to wait and see on that.

In Matches BIG IN HEART!

They say it takes 2 main elements to win in a fighting sport such as kickboxing, Heart and Skill. But what happens when Heart meets Heart and Skill meets Skill? Well when IKF Promoter and European Representative Alby Bimpson and his Merseyside Kickboxing crew matched these bouts, no one could have asked for better. Bimpson's event was held at the St Helens Town Hall in England on Monday night, June 21st and it was clear to the sell out crowd that EVERY Fighter Had them BOTH! Heart AND SKILL! The show was titled "EUROPEAN SHOWDOWN" and with the 4 IKF titles on the line, it lived up to every bit of the hype! IKF President Steve Fossum of California USA was in attendance and was VERY impressed with all the fighters.

The event started out a little cloudy when ex-World Boxing Champion Cheryl Robinson of Southport England pulled off the card only hours before it started. Robinson was scheduled to fight Sandre Penhel of Viseu Portugal in a 5 round non title match. When Bimpson got word Robinson was out he quickly went to work to find an opponent for Penhel who had made the trip over with the other Portages team. He was pleased to find Julie Haselgrave of Wakefield England who took the fight on only a few hours notice. With the line-up in order, it was SHOWDOWN SHOWTIME!

BOUT 1: The night started with a bang with the IKF Full Contact Rules British Middleweight Title on the line. IKF Scotland Champion Wullie Robbie of Glasgow Scotland faced off against Robbie Weedall of Skelmersdale England. Robbie controlled the bout from the opening round. A nose bleed on Weedall started in the 5th and in the 6th, he took a standing 8. Finally at the :32 second mark of round 7, IKF International Referee John Blackledge stopped the bout. Wullie Robbie of Glasgow Scotland became the new IKF Full Contact Rules British Middleweight Champion.

BOUT 2: In the second bout of the evening, England Standout Tony Bassnett of Liverpool England faced IKF Portugal Champion Celso Costa for the IKF International Rules European Light Welterweight Title. This was a bout STRONG on heart by BOTH fighters. Costa came in WAY light for the fight but wanted to fight anyway. On the scorecards it may show that Bassnett won nearly every round however, don't let the numbers fool you. This was a GREAT Fight and a REAL WAR! In losing, Costa proved he deserves to hang with the BEST and we are sure we will see a lot more of him but probably in the Full Contact Rules Division where he excels best. The bout went the entire distance with Bassnett winning the title on all the judges cards, 80-77, 80-72 and 80-74. Bassnett was awarded the long awaited IKF European Light Welterweight Title by Unanimous Decision.

BOUT 3: In the third bout of the night, Sandre Penhel of Portugal was set to fight in her first ever leg kick bout while across the ring, Julie Haselgrave was trying to get warmed up after accepting the bout on only a few hours notice. Experience was clearly the key here as once again it was proved, if you don't train in leg kicks, don't take a fight in leg kicks. Although Penhel showed great high kick skill, Haselgrave continued to low kick her beating her down with shots to the thigh of her left leg. In the end, Penhel was still standing, going the entire 5 rounds as her strong heart kept her in the match. On the cards, all 3 judges gave the decision to Haselgrave 50-44, 50-45 and 50-44. It was Penhel's FIRST loss who dropped to 14-1 and decided later in the night that she would stick to the above the waist, full contact style fighting. She excels there and we are sure to see her at centerstage in the FCR arena soon. Great thanks to Julie Haselgrave who improved to 10-5 and her trainer Dean White for taking the bout on such short notice.

BOUT 4: In the 4th bout of the night, Alex Wasanowicz of Aberdeen Scotland was looking to add one last title to a fine fighting career. Wasanowicz, in his 40's was matched to face current IKF Northwest Area England Champion, Dave Wilson of Merseyside England for the IKF British Full Contact Rules Super Middleweight Title. Wilson came out strong and fast in round 1 using his 6'2" height to great advantage over the shorter Wasanowicz who stood 5'11". Wilson knocked Wasanowicz down in the first round with a strong right hand but Wasanowicz rose quickly as the bell for round 1 sounded. In round 2, Wilson again started quickly scoring big on every shot. Wasanowicz was able to counter some but Wilson's height seemed to be his main advantage. At the :36 second mark of round 2 Referee John Blackledge stepped in to stop the bout. Wilson won the IKF British Full Contact Rules Super Middleweight Title by TKO in round 2. Wasanowicz announced his retirement from the ring but certainly not from the sport. He will continue to be an IKF Promoter in Scotland and from the sound of things, he's got some GREAT PLANS on the Horizon. Wasanowicz retires with an 8-3 record while the 24 year old Wilson remained undefeated.

BOUT 5: He had just recently fought for the IKF World Muay Thai Title in Wisconsin USA going all 5 rounds toe to toe with Kongnapa of Thailand. Although he lost on decision, Eval Denton brought his value up greatly in the fighting world with his performance. So much that promoter Alby Bimpson wanted to offer him a shot at another title, the European Full Contact Welterweight Title. Denton fights in all 3 main rule styles and has done well over his career. With a record of 38-19-4 with 11 KO's it's clear that Denton of Wolverhampton, England has not backed away from ANY Fighter in his class. On this night, he faced Portugal's strongman, Augusto Gomes who has compiled quite a winning record himself at 13-2. The bout was for the IKF European Full Contact Rules Super Welterweight Title. Back and forth these two went for the full 10 rounds. Gomes stayed consistent with the number of kicks he threw per round staying around 13 while Denton unloaded an arsenal. From 19 kicks in round 1, 22 in round 2, 16,13,18,18, 13, 13, 13 and finishing the final round with 22, Denton stayed busy which seemed to be the strong difference in the bout. These 2 fought a tough war with a lot of heart. Denton won on all 3 judges cards, 98-92, 100-92 and 100-92 to win the IKF European Full Contact Rules Super Welterweight Title. As always, the charismatic Denton won the hearts of the fans. But to add to this win even more, this time, unlike some of his other organization title wins, he walked out with his own Title Belt. The IKF European Full Contact Rules Super Welterweight Title. Great fight guys!

Broken Hand Forces Silva Out of Title Defense
Against Steele In Hawaii

It was announced to the IKF Saturday that IKF World Leg Kick Welterweight Champion Ivan Silva of Mexico will not be able to defend his title against American Danny Steele in Hawaii on July 16th. According to Silva's Trainer Doug Dickey, Silva fractured his hand Saturday during training. The IKF has yet to receive a doctors report on the injury but should soon. Silva was to make his first mandatory defense since winning the title by KO over Dave Horvath of Winnipeg, Alberta Canada. Silva won the title in Tijuana Mexico on December 15th 1997.

His last IKF bout was a first round KO over California's David Blocker on April 23rd, 1998. As of this writing, no replacement opponent has been found yet for Steele. It is clear though that Steele will be fighting for an IKF World title whether defending his own, the IKF Junior Welterweight Muay Thai World Title or fighting for either the vacant IKF International Rules Super Welterweight World title or the vacant IKF International Rules Light Welterweight World title. Possible opponents include leg kick fighters, Miguel Reyes of California USA or Tony Bassnett of England. Muay Thai Fighters could include Eval Denton of England, Songhkla Magesticgym or Rich Kostuck both of Wisconsin USA or Khunpon of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. New York Kung-Fu and Kickboxing's
IKF New York Showdown!

IKF New York, NY: IKF Promoters David Ross and Steve Ventura hosted an exciting night of IKF Kickboxing and IKF San Shou style fighting on Saturday, June 26th "One of the best shows I've ever seen" said chief referee Donnie Carolei, a 30 year veteran in the world of kickboxing and one of the most respected referees on the east coast. Apparently the public agreed. The New York Showdown kickboxing show, sponsored by NY Kung-Fu, was sold out, standing room only at the door and close to 100 people had to be turned away because there was simply no more room.

USKBA World Champion Tom Battone, owner of AFC kickboxing gym in Middle Island NY, noted that every single fighter on the card was evenly matched, resulting in some very competitive and exciting fights. No set ups or walkovers for local favorites. "You guys are honest with everyone" Tom told matchmaker David A Ross.

The IKF Border League with Reyes Muay Thai threw its second bout titled "War of the Pacific" on Sunday, June 13th at the BabyRock Disco in Tijuana, Mexico before a packed crowd of 300 people. Teams represented were Ken Shamrock's Lions Den, HUMAN/USMC Kickboxing, Black Tiger, Melchor Menor's World Kickboxing, Reyes Muay Thai, and several Mexican teams from various cities. 20 bouts took place with modified Muay Thai Rules (No Elbows), headgear and 14oz gloves. The fight of the evening went to 15 year old sensation Brenda Lopez trained by IKF representative Miguel Reyes and Valerie Andrada trained by world champion Mechor Menor. The fight was a three round war that went back and forth continuously with a full arsenal of kicks, knees and heavy hands. A split decision went to Brenda Lopez.

Well, after a lot of negotiating and searching for the best deal and venue for the IKF RINGSIDE National Amateur Tournament, we have finally confirmed that it will be in the MIDDLE of the USA so EVERYONE can get their easily. The confirmed dates are SEPTEMBER 3rd, 4th & 5th and the confirmed venue location will be at the Harvey's Resort Casino in Council Bluffs Iowa.

• The weekend schedule will be as follows;
  • Friday, September 3rd: Evening Weigh-Ins& Rules Meeting for "ALL" Fighters and Officials.
  • Saturday, September 4th: Qualifying Bouts. (Minimum 2 Ring action, possibly 3)
  • Sunday, September 5th: National Championship Bouts & Awards Party.

NEXT YEAR, ALL FIGHTERS will be required to attend a local REGIONAL qualifying event to be accepted as a qualifier into the National Finals. However this year, we were unable to organize Regionals in all the areas we wanted to which explains why some fighters were unable to attend a Regional.

This Sunday, June 13th IKF Promoters Doug Dickey and Miguel Reyes will hold their second IKF Border League event at the Baby Rock Disco in Tijuana, Mexico. The IKF Border League was organized by Dickey & Reyes to establish more events between fighters in California and Mexico. The success of the league has been great. Over 20 bouts are planned for this Sundays event which is sponsored by Tecate Beer, Monte de Baja and Calafia Furniture. The event will feature fighting in the Modified Muay Thai Rules (No Elbows) with knees to the body permitted, headgear, 14 oz. gloves and shin guards will be mandatory.

Doug Dickey, who is the IKF Mexico Representative will also be organizing the IKF South West Regionals for the IKF/RINGSIDE National Amateur Tournament. The South/West Regional will be held in Tijuana Mexico due to the high cost of insurance for fighters in California ($60 per fighter PER "BOUT") and the unability to find a host promoter in Arizona or Nevada. The date for the Regional is July 18, and it will also be held at the Baby Rock Disco in Tijuana. The Regional Tournament will feature bouts in the Full Contact, International & Muay Thai Rules Division and include fighters from California, Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico and Utah. Like most of us on the IKF Team, Promoter Caroline Mixon of Orlando Florida is just getting better and better at her work! Mixon took some tips and pointers she was given after her last event and put them into action to make her event last Saturday night at the Orlando Kickboxing Center a great success. From her "Gracious" Hospitality to everyone, to the matching of 8 great fights, Mixon and her MACC Group look to have a long future as promoters in Florida.

The event featured 2 IKF title bouts. The Main Event of the night featured the IKF United States International Rules Light Middleweight Title between Duane Ludwig (8-2) of Aurora, Colorado vs Tony Haddock (6-2) of Orlando Florida. In round 1, Ludwig was the more active fighter as he mixed up both low and high kicks against Haddock. Never in trouble, Haddock used the ring to avoid Ludwig's attacks, countering on some. In round 2, Haddock seemed to have settled down and stood his ground from the start when Ludwig came in. As the round progressed, Haddock seemed to find his mark and when Ludwig pressed near the 1 minute mark of the round, Haddock unloaded a blistering left hook that quickly dropped Ludwig to the canvas. Ludwig's legs were shaking on the mat yet he stood up as IKF Referee Dan Stell started to count. However, once up, he fell back into the ropes again and it was obvious he was not able to continue. Stell stopped the bout at 51 seconds into the second round. Haddock was mobbed in the ring by fans and training partners and when the ring cleared, he was awarded the IKF United States International Rules Light Middleweight belt by fellow Orlando Kickboxing Center fighter and IKF U.S. Woman's Champion, Marisol Esquilin.

The semi Main event was for the IKF Florida State Welterweight title between Tawn Saephan (5-4) of Miami, Florida and Derrick Samuels (6-0) of Orlando, Florida. Although round 1 was exciting from both fighters, in rounds 2,3 & 4, Saephan's choose to instead play a waiting game. However, Saephan's counters didn't hit Samuels at all as Samuels scored with a combination of hands and feet. Saephan quit at the 31 second mark of round 4 claiming to have a sore shoulder but was fine after the bout and a doctors check proved no injury. Samuels won the IKF Full Contact Rules Florida State title over Saephan by TKO. Saephan use to live in Roseville California USA where he trained with IKF Pro Champion, Dave Marinoble. Saephan had previous fought under Marinoble 2 times, both times against Brett Spaid of Roseville, CA, USA and both fights were defenses of Spaid's US Amateur title. Although Saephan lost both, he looked like a much better fighter than he did in Florida.

In the undercard bouts, here are the quick results below;

1. Tim Mills of Aurora, Colorado USA defeated Shea Lowe of Orlando Florida, USA by split decision, 28-29, 30-27 & 29-28.
   
   
2. Tammy Hamby of Orlando Florida, USA defeated Andrea Dupree of Aurora, Colorado, USA when the bout was stopped at the break after the second round.
   
   
3. IKF Woman's International Rules Super Lightweight U. S. Champion, Marisol Esquilin of Orlando Florida wanted to prove to everyone that her forfeit win of her title back in January of this year was no fluke, and WOW, did she ever! Esquilin came out strong and hard against her opponent, Mercedes Mercury of Aurora Colorado, USA and dropped her with a hard shot to the Jaw. Mercury showed a lot of guts and heart and got up to take a standing 8 count from IKF Referee Dan Stell but it was obvious she was still a bit dazed. Esquilin jumped at her again scoring big until Referee Stell put a stop to it at 1:38 of round 1. Although Mercury is a good fighter, she had a great challenge on this night. Esquilin improved to 5-0 with 3 KOs while Mercury dropped to 3 and 2. Simply put, there is NO QUESTION now whether or not Esquilin is worthy of the US title she holds. She was TRULY impressive!
   
   
4. Mike Jimenez of Aurora Colorado USA stopped Christian Shaw of Orlando Florida, USA when Shaw's corner threw in the towel at 1:48 of round 2. Jimenez had previously knocked down Shaw with a head kick before the stop.
   
   
5. Chris Cisneros of Aurora, Colorado, USA defeated William Carpenter of East Orlando, Florida, USA by unanimous decision 30-27, 29-28 and 30-27.
   
   
6. Jason Cleveland of Orlando Kickboxing Center in Orlando Florida, USA defeated Gene Bautista of Rene's Kickboxing in Orlando, Florida, USA when Bautista didn't answer the bell for the 3rd round.

IKF President Steve Fossum and IKF Referee Dan Stell thank IKF Promoter Caroline Mixon for her Great Hospitality she showed everyone. The day after the event, Mixon went above and beyond the courtesy call when she included a vacation day at Universal Studios of Orlando which Mixon paid for herself. "When promoters do things like that, it makes all our work at an event so much more pleasurable" Said IKF President Steve Fossum. "Things like that mean a lot and at the expense of about $100 per ticket it wasn't just a throw in the dark jesture. It was something she didn't have to do but was thanking us for our work we did, and we truly appreciate it." It's official! The IKF will be kicking off their long awaited Submission Division under the New official banner name of the ISCF ( International Sport Combat Federation ) this Saturday in Phoenix, Arizona, USA. The new Submission Fighting Division will headline both amateur and pro submission style fighting around the world. The IKF choose to "RENAME" the association since the letters and name IKF refer to kickboxing and not submission style fighting. A new logo for the ISCF and new Brass Title Belt Medallions have been completed by the IKF new awards company, IAA ( International Awards & Appareal) and 3 Dynimite ISCF United States Title belts are on there way by Fed Ex for tomorrows event. The organization will be directly associated with the IKF sanctioning organization. Mass Destruction Live PPV Event
May 14th, 1999 at Tsongas Arena in Lowell Massachusetts, USA.
Pick up the phone...Hang up the phone... Pick up the phone...Hang up the phone... you get the idea... That seems to be all that is happening here at the IKF World Headquarters today where our phones have not been idle since we got into the office earlier today. Kickboxing fans, fighters, trainers and press around North America and the World all seem to be "BUZZIN" about the "Greatest Kickboxing Event Ever...MASS DESTRUCTION -I-!"

The event was "LIVE" on PPV & Viewers Choice throughout North America and proved to be one of, if not the greatest nights of kickboxing ever. The Promoters are already making plans for the next event tentatively scheduled for September 10th of this year. Tsongas Arena in Lowell Massachusetts, USA was the venue for the May 14th event which hosted a packed house to 5 IKF World Title Bouts and 1 IKF US Woman's Title Bout. Well known fight Commentator Phil Stone handled the Main Commentating while Past World Champion Kickboxer, Jean Yves Theriault was the voice for the color commentary. Due to PPV time restrains though, only 4 of the bouts were televised in full.

The night started out with an "Electrifying" Middleweight Full Contact Rules World Title Bout between Tommy Kimber of Salem, Mass, USA (Above Left before the bout, 16-1 with 10 KO's) and 4 time World Champion Curtis Bush of Virginia Beach Virginia, USA (Above Right before the bout, 42-9-2 with 30 KO's). This was an exciting bout with both fighters opening the show with a BANG! However midway through the bout, Bush suffered from back spasms which drastically limited his movement, especially his kicking ability. This drastically changed the pace of the bout and easily swayed the advantage over to Kimber who was moving without any problem and easily taking advantage of Bush's lack of movement and obvious pain. In the end, Kimber won the vacant IKF Pro Full Contact Rules Middleweight title by unanimous decision, 100-85 on 2 judges cards and 100-86 on the other. After the fight, the well known Bush announced his retirement. Bush won 4 World titles during his time and although he lost this bout, he has nothing to prove to anyone. He will ALWAYS be remembered as a GREAT Champion both in and out of the ring. We are sure to see more of Mr. Bush in the future as an official as well as fight trainer and more important, as a big part of the IKF World Team.

With only a few days left before the event, another sanctioning body tried to be a part of the event without respectfully consulting with the IKF first. This was something that was agreed to between the 2 organizations when the other sanctioning body tried to "Backdoor" the IKF on an event last year featuring IKF World Champion Dennis Alexio in Sacramento, CA, USA. Alexio was outraged that the other organization was involved and not "JUST" the IKF.

However, on the Mass event this last weekend, when the IKF made the final decision NOT to co-sanction with the other organization due to the way they tried to push into the event, the other organization obviously didn't take it well. Rather than act professional, the other organizations commissioner who was a "Guest" at the event went around to several fighters "In their locker rooms before their fights" badmouthing the IKF. What class...and to think... he's a guest... He then forced himself to sit at ringside and went out of his way to cause even more problems with the event causing delays with his "Petty" complaints to the State Commission at ringside.

"There is a lot more to this story than everyone knows. said IKF President Steve Fossum. We made a promise and I shook hands with one of their owners back when they pulled this stunt in May of 1998 to NEVER try such a disrespectful stunt again, and they broke that promise. THEY Crossed a line and it's clear that we were in the right, AGAIN. What happened to Trust and Honor in this sport...? Their own commissioner showed us NONE! He hurt his entire organization by his actions both BEFORE, DURING and worse yet, AFTER a GREAT event! His only interest was to get the video of the event to make money with it for his organization, NOT help the promoters and the fighters. Especially when we heard he wanted 4 times the sanctioning fees we charged the promoter to sanction only 1 or 2 titles on the event. In addition, having the nerve, saying several fighters were not good enough for title shots. I was ashamed at him and shocked that he tried get a large amount of money from the promoters and his attempt to destroy these fighters opportunities for his own personal financial satisfaction. Some of these organizations better stop and look at who's leading them and it will explain why the IKF is surpassing them all." (There "WILL" be a Full story of this individuals actions in regards to this event on our "OPINIONS" page very soon... What a story!!)

Due to these delays, the original fight schedule for the first 2 bouts had to be changed. The second bout of the evening, the Woman's bout for example was scheduled for 10 rounds but was shortened to 6 so the match could fit into any TV time at all. It featured the IKF Full Contact Rules Woman's United States Title between Kellie Morse of Brookfield, Mass, USA (6-0 with 2 KO's) against Christina Rondeau of Woodsocket, Rhode Island, USA (8-2-1 with 2 KO's) This was a rematch between the 2 from an earlier non IKF event which had saw the ringside physician stop the bout due to excessive bleeding of Rondeau's nose. Also a problem in the bout was that Morse's corner would not wear the required "PANTS" for the Full Contact Rules bout. They had said they only had "Shorts". Instead of cancelling the bout, the shorts were accepted at the last minute in the dressing room. However, Morse entered the ring "IN PANTS" which she later took off before the fight started.

The bout was a back and forth war that saw each fighter exchanging blow after blow. In the end, two judges saw it for Morse, 60-54, 58-56 and another for Rondeau 58-56 giving Morse a "Split" decision win for the IKF Pro Woman's Full Contact Rules United States Title. Due to the shorter rounds, and the issue with the "Shorts vs Pants" this bout will be rematched at a later date so get ready for #3 ladies!!!

To begin the LIVE PPV show was the bout for the vacant IKF Pro Full Contact Rules Super Heavyweight title which has received a lot of response from all over the country. Nearly everyone we have talked to over the phone as well as at the event or those we have received e-mail from have all said this was a "GREAT WAR!!!" For years, many promoters have tried to make this match happen between Kevin Rosier of Buffalo, New York, USA (Above Left before the bout, 36-5 with 36 KO's) and Mike Labree of Roscoe, Illinois, USA (Above Right before the bout, 50-2 with 42 KO's).

With promises coming from many promoters around North America, not to mention the broken promises by all the various organizations to both these fighters, both were very grateful for the opportunity and showed great respect and sportsmanship for each other before, during and after the bout. This is a fight that "SHOULD" have happened long ago, but better late than never. LaBree and rosier went toe to toe for 9 rounds exchanging blow after blow. This was a fight with all heart from both fighters. Rosier missed his kicks in 4 rounds (3, 7, 8 & 9) but he just kept taking everything LaBree threw at him, as did LaBree of Rosiers.

At 26 seconds into round 10, LaBree caught Rosier with a short left to the head and Rosier went down to his knees. At that point, referee Jon Schorle put a stop to the bout even though it appeared that Rosier was more tired than hurt. Rosier respectfully accepted Schorle's decision as a professional, which goes to show everyone how TRULY PROFESSIONAL both Rosier and LaBree are. This bout saw two "Great Warriors" in the ring with more heart than you can EVER ask for. With the way everyone has responded to the bout, it looks like a rematch may be in the works. We'll keep you posted on it. GREAT FIGHT GUYS!!!

The next featured PPV bout was probably more desired than the main event as IKF world champion Rick Roufus of Ventura, CA, USA (Right after winning the IKF title bout, 51-4 with 36 KO's) faced off against challenger Stan Longinidis of Boxhill, Victoria, Australia. This bout was originally scheduled to be for the vacant IKF International Rules "Super" Heavyweight Title. However, both Roufus and Longinidis both weighed in UNDER the Super Heavyweight Limit of 215 so instead the bout was a defense of Roufus' International Rules Heavyweight Title.

This bout proved to be everything everyone "WANTED" it to be. With the worries of a quick KO by either fighter, some were afraid their PPV money would not be worth it. So wrong they were. Everyone wanted to see this one go some rounds and in response, well lets just say everyone got their monies worth. Roufus looked better than he EVER has in any of his past leg kick bouts mixing up both low and high kicks with great hand combinations. One of Roufus' high kicks dropped Longinidis in the 5th round but he quickly stood up before the count. Roufus answered all the critics who thought he wasn't a serious threat in the leg kick division as he blasted away on Longinidis round after round with both hand and feet combinations. As round 9 ended and Longinidis made his way back to his corner where it was discovered that Longinidis had suffered a broken ankle which obviously hurt his ability to move from Roufus.

Longinidis informed the ringside physician that he could not continue and at that point, the bout was stopped by the ringside physician and referee Danny Stell. After the 9 rounds, Roufus was ahead on all 3 judges cards, 89-81, 86-83 and 88-81. With the win, Roufus retained his International Rules World Heavyweight Title and proved that his new trainers have clearly made him a force to be respected in the leg kick division. Look for Roufus to make some noise in his upcoming K-1 fights as well as on other IKF events.

With the way all the other fights excited the crowd, the main event had a lot of pressure on it to meet the expectations of everyone. The return of Don "The Dragon" Wilson to the ring though would not be without controversy, at least in the payment department. Kimber had agreed to get paid from the PPV income since he was an actual "Partner" in the promotional corporation. (Contract on file here at the IKF Office) However, just hours before the event, Kimber threatened to pull out of the bout unless he was given an additional $30,000 in addition to the already $20,000 he was paid to secure the bout rather than wait, as agreed for the PPV income. (Wilson was paid in full up front $150,000 and will rec. a great percentage of the PPV) During negotiations prior to the event starting, the other promotional partners decided that all they could do was to pay Kimber his money just to save the event. Money that was planned to be available for nearly all of the undercard bout fighters. A FULL story with all the Confirmed Facts will appear soon on the opinion page... But enough of that... On to the fight...

If you didn't see this fight LIVE on PPV, you better watch it when it re-runs over the next few days or buy it when it comes out on video because this is a fight and an entire show that every kickboxing fan should have in their personal video library. The build-up and ring entries of both Kimber and Wilson was no less than any big World Wide Boxing Event. Everything was in place for what was to be the making of kickboxing history! When the bell rang, you could cut the air with a knife as everyone felt....."THIS IS IT!"

Kimber came out quick as expected and scored quickly as well with hand combinations landing several strong uppercuts and spinning backhands in the first 2 rounds. However, Wilson proved to everyone he could still take a punch and weathered what storms came his way by Kimber. Wilson soon established his range and begin to score some great shots on Kimber. Nearing the end of the 3rd round, Wilson came alive and found his mark as he exploded with a flurry that eventually knocked Kimber to the floor motionless. As Dan Stell counted Kimber out on the floor, there was some confusion from many viewers as to what happened next. All night, due to the crowd noise, the referees had trouble hearing the round bell. Knowing this, with Stell counting over Kimber directly in front of IKF President Steve Fossum, Fossum informed Stell that the round had ended. However, again, due to the crowd noise, Stell, misunderstood Fossum's announcement and thought he was saying that for some reason, Kimber could return to his corner. Quickly realizing what had taken place, Fossum informed Stell that Kimber "WAS" counted out since Kimber never stood during the entire count. Spectators and viewers were a little confused since they never saw Stell wave the fight over until both fighters were sitting in their corners.

"The call was correct by Stell", says IKF President Steve Fossum, "I blame myself for any misunderstandings. I was just doing as we were already doing in the previous bouts due to the arena noise." When Stell finally did wave the bout over, Wilson's corner went wild. Kimber and his trainers never protested as it was obvious that Kimber was not able to continue. After just 3 rounds of fighting, Don "The Dragon" Wilson came back after a 10 year retirement from kickboxing to not just squeak out with a win, but to win by a strong KO. In doing so, Wilson captures the vacant IKF Pro Full Contact Rules World Cruiserweight title and improves to a total of 70 victories with 47 KO's in his career. There was talk after the bout of Wilson facing Rick Roufus, but this is highly unlikely due to such a vast weight difference, but we won't count it out yet. After the Wilson fight, there was still another truly EXPLOSIVE match!

Bernard "Swiftkick" Robinson of Pittsburgh, PA, USA (43-6 with 31 KO's) faced off against Paul Biafore of Missaga, Ontario, Canada (Above with sunglasses & IKF World Title Belt after the fight, 29-3-1 with 15 KO's) This was probably the fastest paced bout of the night. These were CLEARLY the BEST 2 Welterweights going toe to toe to find a World Champion. In round 4, Biafore turned up the juice as he landed several strong head kicks to Robinson combined with great hand combinations to stop Robinson at the end of the 4th round.

Although he lost, Robinson was so impressive we are sure to see him in the future on other IKF events and possibly fighting for another IKF title. In winning, Biafore captures the vacant IKF Pro Full Contact Rules Welterweight World Title.

As we have already said, the promoters hope to have another night of Live PPV IKF World Championship Kickboxing on September 10th. This event was one of the greatest Live Kickboxing Events EVER and sets a standard to GREAT, LIVE Kickboxing shows. But as great as it was, the promoters hope to make the next MASS DESTRUCTION II event even better than this one.

With "8" Seconds Left in the Fight!

A crowd of approximately 5,000 kickboxing fans at the Bladesdale Arena in Hawaii this last Saturday night saw something that doesn't happen very much...Dennis Alexio fighting in the 12th round. IKF World Heavyweight Champion Dennis Alexio added his 64th knockout to his record and his 69th victory with only 2 defeats, but this one took longer than only 5 of his 69 victories. Alexio went "NEARLY" 12 Full Rounds with 3 Time World Champion, Anthony "The Amp" Elmore until Alexio connected with a "Strong Left Hook" to Elmore's jaw that knocked Elmore out cold with only "EIGHT" seconds left in the fight. Veteran referee Marty Dancan of California, USA was brought in specially for the bout. Dancan has refereed over 100 title fights in his time and MANY World title Fights as well and he didn't even start a count when Elmore took the hit as he saw he was out before he hit the ring floor. Elmore was on the mat for over 10 minutes until being helped up to his corner where he even had trouble sitting down. He was taken to the local hospital and later released, however, earlier today he was taken back to the hospital again because of complications related to the concussion he suffered from the blow. Elmore will stay over one more day in the hospital while more tests are run to assure his well being. Our prayers go out to Anthony and his family, who are all there in Hawaii with him, for a safe recovery.

Elmore, fighting the first time in about 3 years was trained by Jeff Mullen of Memphis Tennessee, USA. According to sources, Elmore used the long reach of his jabs, his height and a lot of holding to keep Alexio in check. Although Alexio scored heavily with body shots, Elmore's height (6'3") and holding kept Alexio from delivering a lot of his power shots. Even though Alexio was ahead on all the judges cards when the Knockout occurred, Elmore will be remembered for the most recent fighter to take the legend ALEXIO into the 12th round. If Elmore continues to fight, he may have just made a bit of a name for himself with maybe a bigger payday against another opponent for at least 1 more fight. For Alexio... Although it took longer, it was just another day in the office. Same job, same result.. "Winner BY KO!" Great job AMP for "Walking The Walk!!" And special thanks from the Elmore Camp to Mr. Alexio for being a "GREAT HOST" while in Hawaii. After a 2 year layoff, while studying Chinese Medicine, IKF Promoter Master Tat Mau Wong has returned to Promoting Kickboxing! Mr. Wong & his promotional group are preparing for their upcoming May 9th Full Contact Challenge Kickboxing event at the University of San Francisco. Mr. Wong's events have always been the most prestigious and largest amateur events in the state of California and they still hold the record for the largest all amateur event in the state ever. IKF President Steve Fossum has been assisting Mr. Wong with the event matchmaking and says they should have a great event. This is clearly the event that the IKF calls, the MEGA Event in San Francisco or simply put… "The Show of Shows!"

1998 The IKF and RINGSIDE PRODUCTS of Lenexa, Kansas, USA have begin working on a deal that will bring the sport of Kickboxing to yet another great level. RINGSIDE marketing chief, Joe Taylor and IKF President Steve Fossum have discussed some big plans for the sport starting this weekend at Master Tat Mau Wong's Mega Amateur Kickboxing Event at the University of San Francisco, San Francisco, CA, USA.

RINGSIDE will be supplying RINGSIDE PROFESSIONAL FIGHT GLOVES for the event which has always been the largest amateur event on the West Coast. A crowd of 3,000 plus is expected to witness 4 IKF Title bouts and 8 undercard matches. The IKF-RINGSIDE connection will include organization of an IKF-RINGSIDE National Championship Kickboxing Tournament. RINGSIDE currently holds such a tournament for boxing that features the best amateur boxers in the United States. Other plans for the IKF-RINGSIDE connection include some re-designing of various RINGSIDE equipment for kickboxing in which the IKF plans to offer the assistance of several IKF Champions and Trainers to help in the new designs. This way, RINGSIDE will be able to design equipment that Kickboxers want which can very greatly from boxers.

In addition, more ideas associated with the IKF-RINGSIDE connection include Kickboxing equipment, workout clothes and the most important thing of all, special discounts to IKF associated trainers, fighters & associates of RINGSIDE equipment. This proves to be yet another way the IKF is striving to help the sport of Kickboxing as well as help out the most important people of the sport, the Fighters, Trainers and Promoters that together will help the sport of kickboxing grow to greater levels. IKF Sanctioned Event, Blaisedell Arena in Honolulu, Hawaii, USA

For years, many have been saying Undisputed Full Contact Rules Heavyweight Champion Dennis Alexio never fought certain people. But our question is, WHO IS TRULY LEFT for him to fight? Well, this Friday night at the Bladesdale Arena in Hawaii, Alexio will finally face past 3 time World Champion, Anthony "The Amp" Elmore. Alexio wanted an opponent from the USA this time having knocked out the last 6 European opponents he faced. However, from the USA, the only 3 Full Contact Rules Heavyweights left for him to fight are already booked for the big May 14th event in Mass. USA ( Don Wilson comeback bout, see info by clicking HERE) They are Rick Roufus, Kevin Rosier and Mike LaBree. All 3 have won or still hold World Titles. So when the word went out that Alexio would take ANY callers, NONE Answered with a legitimate challenge and those contacted that had always said they would fight Alexio, all of a sudden had many excuses.. Injuries, not enough preparation time, another fight booked etc etc. and worse yet to all of these, they wanted BIG PAYDAYS! Those who wanted to fight for those big paydays were virtually unknowns in the sport and were asking for paydays of $15,000 to $20,000 and up to meet Alexio. It was obvious and sad for these fighters future exposure that they will remain "Big fish in their small ponds". What they fail to see is that a bout with Alexio, win or lose would bring WORLDWIDE Exposure to their careers. Alexio himself earned his way to the top with low paydays fighting some of the greatest Full Contact Rules fighters in the world. However, today, those seeking Alexio's fame want to be paid as much as 4 times their normal paydays just to step in the ring with the champ. So as they say, many have "Talked the Talk" but Failed to "Walk the Walk"!

However, one did step forward to "Walk the Walk". Enter Past 3 time World Champion Anthony "The Amp" Elmore of Memphis, Tennessee, USA, 31-4, 6'3", 225 lbs. Elmore wanted to get that final shot so Elmore simply asked Alexio for the match. After no one else stepped forward in the United States to take the offer Alexio and IKF President Steve Fossum confirmed the match-up. Although Elmore may be up in years, around 40, so is Alexio. "Some may say Alexio searched for Elmore to come fight him, not so!" says IKF President Steve Fossum. "Elmore contacted us and asked for the bout. At first Alexio said no because Elmore hasn't fought in awhile and he didn't want anyone to think he was fighting a fighter past his days. But since no one else wanted the fight, Alexio finally said yes to Elmore.

This fight between the 2 is NOT about titles. Both have won plenty of World Titles, Alexio 8 and Elmore 3. To Alexio and even Elmore, titles are no big deal at this stage of the game. This fight will simply be CHAMPION vs CHAMPION to see whos skills are the best before they end their VERY SUCCESSFUL careers. The FIGHT itself is worth more than any belt.

Alexio today lives in Molokai, Hawaii, USA and assists in promoting his own events and makes GREAT money doing so in his homeland. Money, "HE DESERVES" for his purse, not unknown challengers. So fight offers abroad need to be big offers, or it's just not worth it for him to leave home. A smart business decision, since HE IS THE CHAMPION, and needs NO ONE. He has a pro record of 68 wins and only 2 losses with 63 of those wins coming by the knockout. His 1 "Registered Loss" (Longinidis remember was ruled a no-contest) he would love to re-match under "HIS" Full Contact Rules, but we truly doubt Don "The Dragon" Wilson will EVER face him, regardless of the payday. Wilson fought Alexio under Leg Kick rules and although Wilson no doubt was as great fighter, he never fought Alexio at his prime or under Alexio's best fighting style of Full Contact Rules Also, they fought at a MUCH lower weight (Cruiserweight) than Alexio won all his titles at (Heavy and Super Heavyweight). To put these two together Alexio would probably do for free just to prove a point. However, Wilson would want a BIG Payday. He's getting 6 figures to face someone Alexio has already stopped QUICKLY several years ago, Dick Kimber on the May 15th Mass. USA event for the VACANT IKF Pro Full Contact Rules World Cruiserweight Title Bout.

Elmore says he's up and ready for the bout and everyone knows, including Elmore that like many of Alexio's opponents, he will enter as an underdog. But win or lose, he'll never be able to say that Alexio wouldn't or never fought him. If Elmore wins, it would be the greatest win of his career. If he loses though, no one will blink an eye since he will be facing the Undisputed Heavyweight Full Contact Rules Champion of the World, Dennis "Kaheke" Alexio and after the bout, the call will go out once again... "Who's Next...?"

IKF Promoter Dan Rawlings had to deal with some last minute headaches on his last event on April 17th at Madison High School in Madison, Ohio, USA when he had his own opponent for the main event, Steven Heath of Indianapolis, Indiana, USA pull out of the fight only 3 days before the event. This was the 3rd time Heath has pulled out of a Midwest bout with less then a weeks notice. Even the IKF tried to talk Heath into keeping his commitment but several personal factors were more important than the fight. "Obviously we would understand under other circumstances" said IKF President Steve Fossum, "But this being the 3rd time Heath has done this, just doesn't sit well. Rawlings spent a lot of money promoting their fight and lost even more when it was cancelled." Apparently, Heath's camp wanted more travel money ( They were getting $300 for a 6 hour trip and their meals and hotel were paid for by Rawlings) and also they said their instructor was going to lose money on private lessons if he went to the event. These were things that SHOULD have been discussed LONG BEFORE the week before the fight. It's NOT Rawlings fault Heath's trainer was going to lose out on private lesson money at his school. If that was an issue, Heath should have just said NO to the bout in the first place. The IKF had other opponents for Rawlings, but Heath accepted the bout. He made the commitment.

A Commitment ALL fighters should keep unless there are "*Legitimate" reasons to cancel!

(*) For example, a REAL Injury caused before the event or a Family Emergency.

Fighter cancelation is something the IKF takes seriously and not kindly to on ANY event. Especially since it was a last minute fighter cancelation on one of Mr. Fossum's promotions that started the ball rolling for him and Mr. Stell to form the IKF back in 1992. The main event AMATEUR fighter wanted to be paid for fighting "AND" simply thought the drive from Bakersfield California, USA to the promotion was too far to drive. ( About a 6 hour drive, like in Heath's situation ) From that situation, a Main Event U. S. Title Bout, they discovered that the organization they paid to sanction the event didn't care about the cancelation because it was an "AMATEUR" title and they said "Several" people already have the title. There was more, but you can all get the picture... Welcome and thankfully so... The IKF......

This situation with Rawlings and Heath has made the IKF finally decide to assist promoters on future events by having a page dedicated to fighters who have pulled out of events with less than 2 weeks notice. The page will be posted soon and in defense of the fighters, it will not just list their names, it will also list the "FACTUAL" reasons "WHY" they have pulled off an event. So if the reasons were legit, promoters can see this, but along with this info it will also list the promoter of the event, a contact number to both the fighter and promoter and what was at stake (title etc). In Rawlings and Heath's case, an IKF Muay Thai Midwest Title and a spot at the IKF/RINGSIDE Nationals was at stake. Since Heath pulled out, Rawlings wins by forfeit and will now "EITHER" attend the Nationals as the Muay Thai Super Lightweight division "ALONG WITH" John Corro of Franklin, Wisconsin, who won the spot at the Midwest Regional Event in Milwaukee the same night. ( Since Rawlings already had his event planned ahead of time as the same night of the Midwest Regionals, the IKF allowed him to feature 2 bouts on his event as Regional bouts as well.) "OR" the 2 fighters will face off in an event between now and the regionals to see who will attend as the Midwest Muay Thai Rules Super Lightweight Representative.

Also on the night, Rob Wiley, 4-2-1, (Omaha) defeated Nathan Clements, 5-1, (Myrtle Beach) by Unanimous decision, 28-29, 26-28, 26-29 to win the second position Midwest Muay Thai Rules Light Middleweight Title birth in the National finals as well. Like Rawlings, if a promoter can match Wiley and the winner at the Milwaukee Regional event, Noi Siboriboun, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the winner will go as the "1" representative of the Midwest Regionals to the National Finals. If not, "BOTH" will go as Midwest Representatives of the Muay Thai Rules Light Middleweight Division.

Miles' IKF CANADA
KICKBOXING - MANIA 6!
FANTASTIC!

IKF Promoter Mike Miles of Canada held another fantastic kickboxing event Saturday night, May 1st in Calgary Alberta Canada. Miles continued in his tradition of hosting an annual Martial Arts tournament and Kickboxing card in which all profits went to a children's charity. This year's event had all profits go towards the Canadian Liver Foundation and its children's programs. Attendance was nearly a sell out with over 800 people and very few empty seats. The event had no Muay Thai bouts but nonetheless, it had excellent fights under the International Rules and Full Contact Rules. A week leading into the event, a school in Manitoba that had promised 4 fighters, pulled out leaving promoter Miles scrambling to fill the remainder of the card with quality bouts. 17 bouts and 1 exhibition took place on the event and all were first class match-ups.

The MAIN EVENT featured Canada's Trevor Smandych of Calgary Alberta Canada in his first Full Contact Rules bout against Rey Amaya of Texas USA, for the IKF North American Welterweight Full Contact Rules Title. Making this bout more of a challenge for the Canadian, Smandych was stepping up 2 complete weight divisions (Smandych regularly fights as a lightweight at 132 lbs.). At the weigh in, Smandych was under the bottom end of the Welterweight division by 4 pounds (138 lbs.) while Amaya was at the top end of the division (146 lbs.), a full 8 pounds heavier than Smandych. Although Smandych was out of the weight requirements, Amaya agreed to the match if Smandych was willing to give up the weight, which he did. Since the title was vacant, the IKF accepted upon the fighters desire to continue with it. The bout was action packed from start to finish. Rounds one and two had Smandych take the lead with cleaner and crisper shots than the American. Round three was a great round for Smandych but also a very controversial one. Smandych landed a roundhouse kick to Amaya's head which put him down like a ton of bricks. Demonstrating his toughness, Amaya was up and at the count of eight and when the fight continued, Smandych was all over Amaya dropping him with a stinging left hook (Amaya didn't remember the blow and/or the resulting knockdown). This was where the controversy begins. The referee gave Amaya a very slow standing eight and then spent time making sure -2- he was coherent. After confirming Amaya was all right, The referee walked Amaya over to the doctor to see if he would allow the fight to continue. After the doctor allowed the bout to continue, Amaya was slowly walked over to his corner to have his mouthguard washed. Well over two minutes had taken place allowing Amaya to regain himself. This took the opportunity away from Smandych to attempt a third knockdown in the fight and thus win by TKO. In rounds four and five, Amaya came out and pressured Smandych to the ropes forcing the fight on the inside. The final two rounds were Amaya. At the end of the fight, a split decision was awarded to Smandych and he became the recipient of the IKF North American Welterweight Full Contact Title. The IKF headquarters is awaiting video of this bout to review why such a long break was given to Amaya.

Canada's Nick Ring stepped into the ring with the shorter but stronger muscled Jace Jeanes from Texas USA in a Full Contact Rules match. Jeanes came out swiftly cornering Ring and trying to land a heavy punch. Ring shelled and responded quickly with a three punch combination which sent Jeanes flying backwards and onto the canvas in grief. Jeanes had fractured his foot while fighting and the bout could not continue so Ring won the fight by first round TKO. A rematch is slated for the future.

2. In a Super Heavyweight International Rules bout, Canadian Keith Crawford won by 1st round TKO over Colorado, USA's Mike Jamenez.
   
   
3. As a show of unity of martial arts organizations, Promoter Mike Miles also had the WKA involved as a sanctioning organization with the IKF on this event. B.C.'s Adam Hay defeated fellow B.C. athlete Dave Rannala for the WKA Western Canadian Cruiserweight Full Contact Title.
   
   
4. Alberta's Trevor Desjarlais won by TKO in round 1 over B.C.'s Mark Woolnaugh Manitoba's Sik Tai gym sent 4 athletes to compete on the card.

As mentioned earlier another gym from Manitoba had pulled out the week earlier and the substitutes from Sik Tai, did very well considering they all took the bouts on a week's notice.

8. IKF Pro Full Contact Rules Middleweight Non Title Bout
   Eric Regan (Citrus Heights, California, USA, 17-0/11, 165) defeated Heath Harris (Poway California, USA, 14-5/14, 165) by TKO at 1:19 of round 1.
   It was later explained to the IKF that apparently, according to those close by at ringside (Judge Cecil Peoples and the ringside Physician) that Harris turned his ankle and was falling down as Regan hit him with a right hand. The ringside physician also said Harris was not hurt bad enough by the punch and that his ankle was swelling. Referee Dan Stell also explained that at his count of 5 on Harris, Harris told him he couldn't stand and that he injured his ankle. Regardless, with the win, Regan remains undefeated and moves even closer to that IKF World Title shot. Something that "COULD" happen in Hawaii on the same show that IKF World Muay Thai Champion Danny Steele will be fighting on when he faces of against IKF International Rules World Welterweight Champion Ivan Silva on for Silva's World title. The event is on July 3rd. If Regan's trainer, Nasser Niavaroni approves it, Regan could face the winner of the IKF Middleweight World Title bout between Curtis Bush and Tom Kimber. This bout will be fought on the IKF Mass. event May 14th.
   
   
9. IKF Pro Muay Thai Rules California Lightweight Title
   John Washington ( Bakersfield, California, USA, 23-9/1, 134) has had several hard fights as a Pro and always seemed to come up short of a win. However on this night, Washington looked GREAT! He kicked low and hard to the legs and high to the face and dazzled us all with quick flurries of hand combinations as he defeated Keo Sychanthavong ( Fresno, California, USA, 17-3-1/3, 135) for the IKF California Title by unanimous decision, 49-46, 49-46 & 50-45.
   The impressive performance surly brings up Washington's value and we hope to see John Main Event again on the next IKF Table Mountain event coming very soon.

CONGRATULATIONS to IKF Woman's California Amateur Atomweight Champion, Jaime Baron 21 of Cool California, USA. Baron won the Silver Medal this last Saturday night in the 1999 Everlast Woman's National Boxing Championships held in Scranton Pennsylvania.

IKF Promoter Abe Belardo of Delano, California, USA is all set to host a Pro/Am event at the Table Mountain Indian Casino outside of Fresno, CA, USA this Saturday night, April 24th. Belardo, the longest active IKF Promoter has 10 bouts scheduled for the nights event but he is also looking for last minute additions. Less than a week ago, the event had 17 bouts, but as usual with many events, last minute drops occurred. The worse drop was the losing of the IKF number 1 Ranked Lightweight Muay Thai Rules fighter, Pongsan Ek-Yothin of North Hollywood, CA, USA who was due up against Enn Fairtex of San Francisco, California. Ek-Yothin was late getting his paperwork in with the California State Athletic Commission so the Commission couldn't grant him his license for the year. An error that could have been delt with if Ek-Yothin made the paperwork more of a priority rather than wait until the last minute to do it. Their bout "WAS" due to be a fight-off for the IKF Lightweight Muay Thai World Title with the opponent to face Milwaukee, Wisconsin sensation Rich Kostuck on June 5th in Milwaukee.

Kostuck currently holds the Junior Welterweight 135.1 lbs. -140 lbs. Intercontinental Muay Thai Title. However, now Kostuck will face another opponent, possibly Eval Denton of England who recently fought Kongnapa in Milwaukee, Wisconsin USA on Duke Roufus' promotion in a GREAT fight that saw Kongnapa retain his World Title with the win. However, Denton looked GREAT in the bout and was assured to appear again for an IKF title down the line. That fight was just a few months back and Denton had to come up in weight for Kongnapa (147.1 lbs. - 154 lbs) so at Junior Welterweight 135.1 lbs. -140 lbs., he should be very strong for Kostuck.

Due to the last minute drop of Ek-Yothin in this weekends event, the Promoter, Mr. Belardo, is looking for a 130-135 lb Pro, Muay Thai replacement to go up against Enn Fairtex. However, due to last minute needs, it will cost too much to fly someone in, so this fighter needs to be within driving distance of the Fresno, CA, USA area. Other bouts scheduled for the event will include an IKF Pro Muay Thai California Title Bout between John Washington and Keopheth Sychanthavong and a much anticipated rematch between IKF Amateur West Coast International Rules Heavyweight Champion Manuel Quezada of Wasco, California, USA vs Carter Williams of Modesto, California, USA.

Also, past IKF Amateur Light Heavyweight International Rules Champion Heath Harris (11-2 with 8 KO's of San Diego, California USA) will be making his pro debut. Harris was scheduled to fight IKF Amateur North American Super Middleweight Champion Toney Hannon 18-0-3 with 16 KO's of Bakersfield CA, USA, also making his pro debut, but Hannon was forced to pull out last week due to a foot injury. Instead, Harris will face IKF North American Full Contact Rules Champion Eric Regan (16-0 with 10 KO's of Citrus Heights, California, USA) Regan is coming off of an impressive TKO win over Cecil Hagins, 18-7 with 14 KO's of Albq. New Mexico, USA in Sacramento, California, USA last December 12th. Regan stopped Hagins at 1:45 of the 3rd round after he broke Hagins nose in round 2. During Regan's attack in round 1 he threw 29 kicks to Hagins 11. In round 2, Regan dominated with both hands and feet throwing 19 kicks to Hagins 2. Regan has not fought in kickboxing since but he has had 2 boxing matches winning both.

Veteran leg kick fighter Heath Harris will have his hands full with Regan and with 2 disadvantages against him. First, he is coming down in weight to Middleweight, 165 and secondly, although Harris is mainly a leg kick fighter, the bout will be fought under Full Contact, above the waist rules, where Harris had 1 of his only 2 loses. That loss came to IKF Light Heavyweight Champion Mike Dougherty 9-2 with 5 KO's, of Loomis, CA, USA back in April of 1996 at the Win River Indian Casino in Redding CA, USA. Dougherty made one of the greatest comebacks in IKF history after being dropped hard in the opening round by Harris to go the distance and win a unanimous 5 round decision, 48-45, 48-45 & 49-45. In the bout, Dougherty won the vacant IKF Full Contact Rules United States Light Heavyweight Title. In a second match between the 2 on July 24th, 1997, Dougherty was defending his IKF US Light Heavyweight "Leg Kick" title (He had won on October 21st, 1995 against Julio Nunez, 14-5 of Albq. New Mexico, USA). In the bout, Harris Knocked Dougherty down at 1:26 of round 2 and this time, Dougherty didn't get up. With both Regan and Harris having great Knock Out Power with their hands, it won't surprise anyone if the bout doesn't go the scheduled 5 rounds. Simply put... These 2 can knock people out!

Making News in Boxing!

IKF Woman's California Amateur Atomweight Champion, Jaime Baron, 21 of Cool California, USA has qualified to fight in the 1999 Everlast Woman's National Boxing Championships this Saturday in Scranton Pennsylvania. Baron begin her quest to the finals on Tuesday, in Pennsylvania by stopping Kaci Holt of Cheetowaga, New York in the 2nd round (RSC: Referee Stops Contest). On Wednesday night, she defeated Christina Munski of Pennsylvania with a score of 25-2 (Computer scoring). Thursday night she stopped Deborah Stein of New York, New York in the second round (RSC).

In the Championship bout Saturday night, Baron will compete for the Woman's 119 lb. United States Title at the University of Scranton in Pennsylvania against Ada Valez of Hollywood Florida. Finally Meet?
Also, Several Question the May 14th event in Mass. USA with
Don "The Dragon" Wilson... Should They??

For years, many have been saying Undisputed Full Contact Rules Heavyweight Champion Dennis Alexio never fought certain people. But our question is, WHO IS TRULY LEFT for him to fight? Well, there are still a few left out there that would make great opponents for Alexio, but several in that mix are booked on an event on May 14th in Mass. USA. An event many are questioning whether or not will actually happen since their has been very little advertising and marketing done for the event which is scheduled live for PPV & Viewers Choice. Promoters of that event were trying to book Alexio against Rick Roufus but Alexio pulled away from the promotion because he thought the show was unorganized with the first time promoters. Money and Roufus WERE NOT the issues here. Alexio was offered 6 figures and Alexio WELCOMES Roufus, ANYDAY to a fight! However, event organization and the promoters were the issue. Promoting is something Alexio knows a lot about and we'll all see if he gets the last word come May 14th.

Others fighters though have questioned the promoters as well with several complaints. Phone calls not being returned to fighters, fans and many others, promotional material not being sent out (posters, press releases). But in the defense of the promoters, all promotional obligations have been met. All deposits to Wilson and Roufus have been paid in full (Nearly $50,000, which they both made a part of their fight contracts) all bookings, sanctioning fees with the exception of some smaller promotional obligations (plane tickets & belts) have been paid in full. No one from Revolution Productions at www.rpkickboxing.com, the event promoters, has talked cancelation as of this writing, so as far as the IKF is concerned, the event is still a GO.

Other good opponents for Alexio that are booked on the May 14th event include Stan Longinidis who Alexio fought under Leg Kick rules in Australia. In the opening few seconds of the bout Longinidis threw a strong leg kick at Alexio and he checked it with his left shin. Alexio stood on the leg, took a step with the other leg and stood on the leg again and it simply crumbled under him breaking his leg. The bout ended with a TKO win for Stan but there was plenty of contraversey surrounding the break after Alexio's camp returned from Australia. Nearly everyone, even Alexio's camp, after the event said it was a kick from Longinidis that caused his leg to break However, once back in the USA, Alexio's manager Bob Wall created his version of what he thought happened claiming Alexio stepped in a hole in the ring mat and that caused the break... WKA kept the title with Stan while ISKA USA sided for a political move and called it a no-contest. ISKA Australia also kept the win for Stan. It was a spiral break, if that says anything. Regardless, Stan broke Alexio's leg that night with the kick. No disrespect to Dennis but give credit where credit was due... High marks to Longinidis. It was amazing enough that Alexio came back from the injury which many doubted he could do. The sad thing was all the political activity about the win. Stan had no problem with a rematch but Alexio's asking price was far out of reach of any promoter. Alexio was paid $80,000.00 for the bout while Stan was paid -0-. He just wanted the chance to fight him, and he did, and he won... End of story....

Finally, as far as from the USA, Alexio could have faced, on his May 8th event, Kevin Rosier or Mike LaBree. But both are also scheduled to fight on the May 14th event against each other for the vacant IKF Super Heavyweight Full Contact Rules Title.

However, from the looks of things, Alexio will face someone else others have wanted to see him fight. Past 3 time World Champion Anthony "The Amp" Elmore of Memphis, Tennessee, USA, 31-4, 6'3", 215 lbs. Elmore wanted to get that final shot so Elmore simply asked Alexio for the match. As of this writing, the bout is not signed and confirmed but sources say it's very close to being confirmed soon. Whether Alexio will defend his IKF Heavyweight Title or not will also be confirmed soon. Keep in mind though, to Alexio, titles are no big deal. With 8 World titles to his name, we don't think he needs to worry about a title bout. With both fighters approaching the end of their successful careers, the FIGHT itself is worth more than any belt.

Alexio had knocked out his last 6 European opponents and he wanted a fighter from the USA. However, as the IKF searched for American opponents for Alexio to fight, it was obvious there were many who "SAID" they would fight him, but as crunch time came, the excuses came as well. Injuries, not enough preparation time, another fight booked etc etc. and worse yet to all of these, they wanted BIG PAYDAYS! Those who wanted to fight for those big paydays were virtually unknowns in the sport and were asking for paydays of $10,000, $15,000, $20,000 and up to meet Alexio. It was obvious and sad for these fighters future exposure that they will remain "Big fish in their small ponds". What they fail to see is that a bout with Alexio, win or lose would bring WORLDWIDE Exposure to their careers. Alexio himself earned his way to the top with low paydays fighting some of the greatest Full Contact Rules fighters in the world. However, today, those seeking Alexio's fame want to be paid as much as 4 times their normal paydays just to step in the ring with the champ.

Alexio today lives in Molokai, Hawaii, USA and assists in promoting his own events and makes GREAT money doing so in his homeland. Money, "HE" deserves for his purse, not unknown challengers. So fight offers abroad need to be big offers, or it's just not worth it for him to leave home. A smart business decision, since HE IS THE CHAMPION, and needs NO ONE. He has a pro record of 68 wins and only 2 losses with 63 of those wins coming by the knockout. His 2 loses came from Longinidis as noted above and another fighter he would love to re-match under "HIS" Full Contact Rules, Don "The Dragon" Wilson. However we truly doubt Wilson will EVER face him, regardless of the payday. Wilson fought Alexio under Leg Kick rules and although Wilson no doubt was as great fighter, he never fought Alexio at his prime or under Alexio's best fighting style of Full Contact Rules. Also, they fought at a MUCH lower weight (Cruiserweight) than Alexio won all his titles at. To put these two together Alexio would probably do for free just to prove a point. However, Wilson would want a BIG Payday. He's getting 6 figures to face someone Alexio has already stopped QUICKLY several years ago, Dick Kimber on the May 15th Mass. USA event for the VACANT IKF Pro Full Contact Rules World Cruiserweight Title Bout, NOT HEAVYWEIGHT as Karate Kung-Fu magazine reported WRONG and Kimber DOES NOT hold the IKF title either, again, as Karate Kung-Fu magazine reported WRONG.

(Speaking of the recent article by Karate Kung Fu, here in the USA, what a TERRIBLE piece of work!! They claim that the Wilson fight is all that is left to "SAVE THE SPORT" Obviously the writer knows NOTHING of the sport WORLDWIDE! It's bigger today than it EVER was! We believe the writer also should have taken a few extra moments to look up more credible sources for her information than the 2 she used. She used a kickboxing trainer who is no longer involved in the sport and a promoter who promotes in NY, USA under an virtually UNKNOWN organization that has NO Rankings, let alone a web site with Important information. Also, they only promote shows in the Northern Midwest and North East USA (K.I.C.K.). What she SHOULD have done was go to the SOURCE, such as the Promoters themselves or better yet, the IKF who's sanctioning the event. We could have told her that Wilson IS NOT fighting for a HEAVYWEIGHT Title and Kimber Does NOT hold ANY IKF title that he is defending against Wilson. What a piece of work. Another slap to our GREAT Sport by an uneducated critic!!)

Regardless of what happens May 14th, Alexio's event is a sure deal. Elmore says he's in better shape now than 10 years ago. Regardless of the results, everyone knows Elmore will enter as an underdog, as all of Alexio's opponents do. But win or lose, he'll never be able to say that Alexio wouldn't or never fought him. If Elmore wins, it would be the greatest win of his career. If he loses though, no one will blink an eye since he will be facing the Undisputed Heavyweight Full Contact Rules Champion of the World, Dennis "Kaheke" Alexio and after the bout, the call will go out once again... "Who's Next...?"

On Saturday, April 17, 1999, at the Eagles Club Ballroom in Milwaukee, WI the IKF/RINGSIDE featured their 2nd regional event of the year. The event, promoted by Milwaukee Kickboxing & Fitness Club & Z's Martial Arts of Chicago Illinois was a great success. 51 fighters registered, but some did not fight due to walkover wins. Those that did though, converged in Milwaukee to "Walk the Walk" and prove themselves as the best in the Midwest. In a total of 20 bouts, over 40 hard-fought rounds were pounded out to the delight of the crowd. The kickboxers exhibited true grit and undying spirit. However, only a select group of full contact and Muay Thai fighters advanced to the IKF/RINGSIDE Nationals (to be held later this year). Round-by-round coverage of the evening finals and non-tournament matches can be seen below.

1. IKF Featherweight Muay Thai - Exhibition - Bout
   Fighter Josh Tarman, Wisconsin, won the Featherweight Muay Thai division by walkover since no on else entered his division so he did a special exhibition bout with training partner, Jimmie Chantavong, Wisconsin. Round 1: Both fighters started off the action with leg sweeps. Nice punch-kick combos by both. Josh and Jimmie exchanged knees toward the end of the round. Jimmie was very relaxed; Josh showed great composure. Round 2: After catching a kick thrown by Josh, Jimmie got airborne with a great flying knee! Josh worked a good knee attack. Jimmie and Josh had great low kick exchanges! Round 3: Both fighters really picked up the pace!  Josh was clinching well. Jimmie unloaded some knees. Josh showed great strength and Jimmie showed a lot of composure. Great expo, guys!
   
   
   
2. IKF Heavyweight Muay Thai - Exhibition - Bout
   Fighters Jason "Roadblock" Johnson, Heavyweight, Wisconsin and Christian Toleque, Light Cruiserweight, Ohio both won their way to the Nationals by walkovers when no on entered their divisions. But both wanted some ring time and agreed to do an exhibition for the crowd. But hey...These 2 were BANGIN! Round 1: What an EXHIBITION! Both fighters are undefeated, and neither wanted to give up any ground. Jason and Christian began working knee attacks. Jason threw a big right hand that barely missed. Both fighters were big, ripped, and in great shape! Round 2: Christian was relaxed. Jason caught a kick thrown by Christian and then went to work on his supporting leg. The crowd was really fired up, and so were the fighters! Jason unloaded a solid low kick followed by a well-timed right hand. Both these guys dug in deeply! Round 3: Great punch-low kick combo by "Roadblock!" Jason then followed up with a knee attack. Christian peppered a swift jab. Considering how hard both worked, one would never have guessed that this was an "exhibition!" Best wishes to both of you at Nationals!
   
   
   
3. IKF Welterweight & Super Welterweight Full Contact Non Tournament Bout
   Fighters Kevin Miller of Chicago and Avind Gavali of Illinois both won their bouts by walkovers as well. Miller will represent the Super Welterweight FC Division while Gavali will represent the Welterweight FC Division. But that didn't stop them from fighting a real bout to get in some ring time and in the bout which was a real fight, Miller was "SMOKIN!!!" In round 1, he delivered a hard round kick to the Avind's body. Avind kept Kevin at bay with a commanding side kick but Kevin kept closing the gap and unloaded solid right hands. Avind keenly ducked Kevin's spin backfist. Round 2: Kevin unloaded several solid right leg round kicks to the body along with powerful hooks. Avind kept moving and unleashed a good defensive side kick but Kevin continued to set the pace of the fight. Round 3: Avind was given a standing eight count from referee Al Wichgers following a punch barrage from Kevin. Kevin then began working ax kicks from all angles, firing them from the inside and outside. Avind stayed tough against a more experienced Kevin but Miller won by decision 30-26, 30-26 and 30-24.  Way to go, guys! This match was a real sizzler!
   
   
   
4. IKF Super Heavyweight Full Contact - Regional Final
   Rick Bloyer, Wisconsin, defeated Brett Witte, Illinois, by KO at 51 seconds into round 1. Round 1: Rick exhibited good punches. Brett landed a solid body kick. Rick dropped Brett with a merciless uppercut at 51 seconds.Yet another sizzler of a match! Congratulations on going to Nationals to represent the Super Heavyweight Full Contact Division, Rick!
   
   
   
5. IKF Super Lightweight Full Contact - Regional Final
   Srinu Yeshwant of Illinois stopped William Olascoaga also of Illinois with a strong right hand KO at :34 seconds into round 1 during the day to advance to the championship bout against Heath Fonnest of Minnesota. Fonnest proved he has some "SUPERFEET" though as he defeated Yeshwant by Unanimous Decision. Championship Bout: Round 1: Great movement by both fighters! Srinu stuck to Heath. Srinu landed a hard right hand. Heath, who fought as a southpaw, exhibited an impressive armamentarium of kicks. Round 2: Heath fired a great left round kick followed by a spinning backfist. Srinu kept moving and remained relentless. Good round for both fighters. Round 3: Heath set the pace with a solid side kick and left cross! Heath then caught Srinu in the head with a front kick. Srinu showed great heart. As with the other full contact bouts, this was a sizzler of a match. Congratulations to Heath who won by unanimous decision, 30-27 on all 3 judges cards. He now goes on to Nationals to represent the Super Lightweight Full Contact Division!
   
   
   
6. IKF Super Lightweight Muay Thai - Regional Final
   John "Baby Boy Bomber" Corro of Wisconsin had to first defeat Brian Helfrinch of Illinois by majority decision during the day, 30-27, 28-29 and 30-27 before moving to the championship bout in the evening where he defeated Tieng "Laotian Kid" Phetvixay also of Wisconsin by Split Decision, 29-28, 28-29 & 29-28. Championship Bout: Round 1: What an action-packed fight between these two Phetnoi Gym fighters! Both began clinching. Tieng unloaded a solid right hand. Johnny showed great quickness with his left switch kick to Tieng's head. Round 2: Both began clinching again. "Baby Boy Bomber" dropped the bomb with a right low kick; Tieng returned the favor with a right hand counter. Both these guys were fighting hard; the crowd really got into this one! Round 3: Both fighters really poured it on and proved that they were in great shape! Tieng peppered solid right middle kicks. Johnny unleashed a penetrating right hand.  The round ended with clinching and knees by both fighters. Awesome fight, guys! Congratulations on going to Nationals to represent the Super Lightweight Muay Thai Division, Johnny!
   
   
   
7. IKF Light Welterweight Full Contact - Regional Final
   K.C. Giwa of Minnesota defeated Nick Basile of Illinois by Split Decision, 29-28, 27-30 & 30-27. Round 1: Can you say sizzler?  These guys sure can! Nick constantly pressed forward. K.C. fired a solid right round kick to the head. Round 2: Good left-right combos by K.C. and his "Punching Sunshine Band!" Nick kept pressing forward. Both fighters were continuously on the move! Round 3: K.C. seemed to frustrate Nick with his movement and counters. Nick let the haymakers fly at the close of the round. Congratulations on going to Nationals to represent the Light Welterweight Full Contact Division, K.C!
   
   
   
8. IKF Super Welterweight Muay Thai - Regional Final
   Jason Sell, Wisconsin and Soun Vophadky also of Wisconsin made it hard on IKF officials at ringside. The 2 fought to a "Split Decision Draw" 30-27, 28-28 & 26-30 giving them BOTH an invitation to the Nationals. Round 1: Great leg kicks by both; "pops" resonated throughout the arena after each kick!  Uppercut-right hand combo by Soun caught the crafty Jason. Both fighters moving well. Round 2: Soun lands another hard right hand. Jason stuck to the fight relentlessly! Both fighters exchanged solid kicks. This fight was a real crowd-pleaser! Round 3: Jason came out very strong; his conditioning was unquestionable. Jason put a lot of pressure on Soun with great punch-kick combos. The crowd became ecstatic! What a fight by both these tigers!  Congratulations to both of you for representing the Super Welterweight Muay Thai Division at Nationals!
   
   
   
9. IKF Middleweight Full Contact - Regional Final
   Peyton Russell of Illinois, defeated Ronell Huston of Michigan by Unanimous Decision, 29-28, 30-27 & 30-27. Round 1: Both fighters came out to take names, kick with power and steal some girlfriends! Great action, as both moved well. Peyton pressed the fight. Round 2: Ronell and Peyton exchanged punches and kicks throughout the round. Neither fighter seemed to capitalize on the other's mistakes, if there were any. Peyton continued to set the pace. Round 3: Both fighters showed a lot of lateral movement. Ronnel landed a good uppercut and Peyton followed with a textbook front kick to the head. Way to go, guys! Congratulations on going to Nationals to represent the Middleweight Full Contact Division, Peyton!
   
   
   
10. IKF Woman's Featherweight Full Contact - Regional Final
    Amy Ramirez of Illinois, defeated Rachel Thomas of Wisconsin by TKO - Referee Stoppage - after Ramirez blasted Thomas over and over again in the nose. The bout was stopped due to excessive bleeding at 1:41 of the first round.. Round 1: What a fight! The bell rang and what followed was an unbridled slugfest. Pure war! Amy landed shot after shot toRachel's nose that resulted in profuse bleeding. After medical consultation, referee Al Wichgers stopped the bout. Congratulations on going to Nationals to represent the Womens Featherweight Full Contact Division, Amy!
    
    
    
11. IKF Woman's Bantamweight Muay Thai - Regional Final
    Deb Davey of Illinois defeated Ruth O'Malley of Wisconsin by Split Decision, 29-28, 30-27 & 30-28. Round 1: Both came out firing punches and kicks. Neither could capitalize or gain an upperhand in this round. Round 2: Ruth moved well. Deb tried jamming Ruth's kicks. Both continued exchanging punches and kicks. Round 3: Deb pressed forward. Ruth, who took the bout on 6 hours notice, worked hard and countered well. Great heart shown by both these ladies!  Congratulations on going to Nationals to represent the Womens Bantamweight Muay Thai Division, Deb!
    
    
    
12. IKF Light Heavyweight Full Contact - Regional Final
    Underdog, Mike Moyle (1-0/0) of Wisconsin had to face vetran fighter Daniel Russ, (10-1-1/5) of Wisconsin in the daytime prelims before moving to the evenings Championship Bout. He did so when Russ injured his left foot when he struck Moyle's elbow on a kick attempt at :40 seconds into round 1. However, Moyle was later stopped by David Pareja (10-0/7) of Illinois at 1:57 of round 1 after Moyle took several unanswered punches to the head. Championship Bout: Round 1: David unloaded an effective punch barrage. After giving Mike a standing eight count, referee Al Wichgers stopped the bout. Congratulations on going to Nationals to represent the Light Heavyweight Full Contact Division, David!
    
    
    
13. IKF Light Middleweight Muay Thai - Regional Final
    Noi Siboriboun of Wisconsin defeated Hutan "Iran Man" Ghojallu also of Wisconsin by Unanimous Decision, 29-26, 29-27 and 29-26. Round 1: Both Hutan and Noi unloaded solid kicks on each other. The crowd was really into these two! Noi sent Hutan down with a solid right hand. Great round, guys! Round 2: Hutan showed solid right leg kicks. Noi unleashed a great punch attack that led to a standing eight count for Hutan. Hutan was a real trooper, as he kept putting pressure on Noi. Round 3: Hutan came out very strong with punches and a solid right leg kick. Noi countered with a scorching right hand. Awesome fight, guys!  Congratulations on going to Nationals to represent the Light Middleweight Muay Thai Division, Noi!
    
    
    
14. IKF Middleweight Muay Thai - Regional Final
    Travis Riviera of Wisconsin had to get past Torao Yoshida of Illinois in the daytime prelims before advancing to the evenings Championship Bound. Riviera did so by winning a unanimous decision over Yoshida, 29-28 on all 3 judges cards. However, his bid for the title was cut shorted when he faced Jim "Knock 'em Down" Downey of Wisconsin, as Downey defeated Riviera by Unanimous Decision, 30-27 on all 3 judges cards. Championship Bout: Round 1: Travis and Jim came out with something to prove. Jim clinched and caught Travis with a hard knee attack.Jim then stepped back and unloaded a crisp right hand, followed by more knees. Travis kept his range by jabbing. Round 2: Jim resumed his potent knee attack against the game Travis. Travis began applying great pressure. What a barnburner! Round 3: Jim caught Travis with more knees and good right hands. Travis was like a rock. This could have very well been touted as the fight of the night! Great job, guys!  Congratulations on going to Nationals to represent the Middleweight Muay Thai Division, Jim!
    
    
    
15. IKF Super Heavyweight Muay Thai - Regional Final
    "Bad" Brad Fowler of Wisconsin defeated Adm Askins of Illinois by KO at 1:21 of the first round. Round 1: Adm deserves credit, considering he was much shorter at than the powerful Brad at 6'4". Adm stuck to the fight, but Brad's pinpoint punches and kicks took their toll on Adm, sending him to the canvas. Way to go, Brad! Congratulations on going to Nationals to represent the Super Heavyweight Muay Thai Division!

Other Walkover Winners who did not do an exhibition or fight include Full Contact Fighters, Lightweight Jim Klauba of Illinois, Light Middleweight Rolando Higueros of Illinois, Super Middleweight Shawn Stallard of Michigan, Light cruiserweight Johnny Ransom of Wisconsin, Heavyweight John Welch of Illinois and Woman's Light Welterweight Julie Jackle of Wisconsin. In the Muay Thai Division, Walkover winners in addition to those who did exhibitions above included Lightweight Joe Tarman of Wisconsin, Welterweight Joey Corro of Wisconsin, Super Middleweight Harvey Grasse of Wisconsin, Light Heavyweight Brian Fowler of Wisconsin and Cruiserweight Mike Mattox of Illinois. A total of 9 fighters dropped out at the last minute for various reasons.

The IKF/RINGSIDE North Central has built a STRONG TEAM and will provide GREAT fighters to the upcoming IKF/RINGSIDE National Finals. It looks to be a GREAT SHOW!!!

1999 AUGUSTA SUPERFIGHT: A very vocal crowd of approximately 600-700 fans was on hand Saturday, April 17, 1999 at the 1999 Augusta Superfight at Gym 1 at Fort Gordon in Augusta, Georgia. The event was sanctioned by the International Kickboxing Federation ( IKF) and the Professional Karate Commission (PKC) and was the PKC's 1999 U.S. Championships and the IKF 1999 Southeastern Division 2 Regional Championships. The 1999 Augusta Superfight featured twelve title bouts, three preliminary bouts, including three women's matches. The event was co-promoted by JM Promotions in conjunction with Mike Carlson's Augusta Martial Arts Academy. The event followed a successful daytime karate tournament featuring forms, sparring, grappling, and a submission oriented division. The evening's results were as follows:

BIG MOVE Under Way At
IKF Headquarters!!!

If you've been wondering whats taking us so long on the full news from IKF Promoter Jeff Mullen's recent IKF /RINGSIDE"Central-East National Amateur Event", well we apologize. Jeff held the FIRST EVER IKF / RINGSIDE National Amateur Regional Event with honors and put a GREAT start to the road to the National Finals. Mr. Mullen had 36 fighters registered. We will be doing a full blow by blow report soon along with the details from Sik Tai's event last weekend once we get the full results from them.

There is a very good reason for the delays though... We have been working round the clock (Note the time of this update... 5:10 AM, we've been here all night...zzzzz) moving in to our new IKF headquarters and training facility. We hope to have the move completed by next weekend so between now and then, please be patient with us on the news updates. The move will make the IKF run even more efficient with much more office space and work rooms for our new Awards Company (Title Belts), appareal and other IKF products such as our instructional videos, new magazine and MORE! We assure you, this slight delay will be WELL Worth IT ALL! So far, MANY IKF Worldwide associates have sent in flags, banners and various gifts for the new facility. Ramsey Cancels
IKF West Virginia Event

IKF Promoter Leon Ramsey was forced to cancel his upcoming IKF West Virginia event due to financial problems with some sponsors. On the line was the IKF Pro Super Heavyweight FCR Intercontinental Title bout between George Randolph of West Virginia, USA and Rolandus Digrys of England. The winner was to fight the winner of the May 14th bout between Mike LaBree and Kevin Rosier for the IKF Super Heavyweight Full Contact Rules Title. Digrys had turned down 2 other bouts in England for this fight along with taking off work for the trip. He and his trainer Robert Newell were at the airport ready to leave when the event was cancelled by the promoter for this weekend. Since all Pro Title Bouts are under contract whether written or verbal, the IKF has paid Digrys his FULL fight Purse he was expecting. The IKF will try to re-book Digrys to fight later this year in the USA since the flight tickets were paid in full by Mr. Ramsey. Sadly enough, Mr. Ramsey will suffer quite a loss from the cancelation and event expenses (Fighters purse, plane tickets, promotional expenses) he has and has yet to pay. We're confident Mr. Ramsey will be back in the IKF promotional spotlight soon. We'll see you soon Leon....

IKF Promoter Caroline Mixon of the MACC Group announced that her promotional team will be moving their IKF / RINGSIDE Regional Amateur Event to a date in June. Their event was scheduled to feature ALL 3 Fighting Divisions: Full Contact, Intl & Muay Thai Rules and will including fighters from: Florida, South Carolina, Georgia and Alabama. Currently, they have a tentative date of the 11th, 12th & 13th. However, the IKF also has our European Promoters Conference scheduled during that time. A confirmation of these 2 dates will be announced soon. The European conference may be moved up into the month of May sometime. IKF Europe Report: A big congratulations must go to IKF Promoter Russ Williams and his team for a great night of kickboxing on Sunday night, March 28th. For the first time it was held at the COLISEUM THEATRE, RHYL, NORTH WALES. The venue situated on the promenade at this holiday resort holding a capacity crowd. Russ's first IKF show was a great success with the top of the bill being IKF Welsh Pro Cruiserweight Full Contact Rules title.

What a fight this turned out to be, between local Hero SPENCER WILDING against MARTIN JONES of Haverford West, South Wales. SPENCER, who stands 6ft. 7in, a site to be seen, used his size to full advantage. The first round started with both fighters feeling each other out, but from this early stage SPENCER had already begun to land clean shots with his hands and feet. He certainly did not make it easy for MARTIN JONES, by using his attributes to his advantage. The first round going to SPENCER on all judges cards.

Second round, JONES, was certainly not deterred, and came out as though he was 6ft 7 as well. This turned out to a GREAT round of Full Contact Kickboxing. SPENCER raised the pace putting down JONES, who then sustained a cut to the head. IKF INTERNATIONAL REFEREE JOHN BLACKLEDGE examined the cut , and between himself and the Doctor, allowed the bout to continue. At this point the crowd was estatic and on their feet.

The 3rd round started with GREAT EXPECTATIONS from BOTH fighters, but SPENCER picked up where he had left off, putting his opponent down again. Once again JONES rose to his feet only to be met with a blistering right hand from SPENCER. As JONES was being counted by referee JOHN BLACKLEDGE, his corner threw in the towel, making SPENCER the NEW IKF Pro Cruiserweight FCR Champion.

The europhoric crowd was on their feet. IKF European Rep Alby Bimpson spoke to Spencer after the fight, and found Spencer to be a down to earth person who knows where he wants to go, WATCH OUT ALL YOU FULL CONTACT FIGHTERS AT CRUISERWEIGHT, AS SPENCER HAS ARRIVED. The remainder of the show was made up of Novice fights.

IKF Promoter Tim Stell of LTD Productions of Fairfield CA, USA along with Budweiser and RINGSIDE INC. held a GREAT event Saturday night at the Vallejo Fair Grounds in Vallejo, CA, USA. A crowd of 1,300 plus packed the hall and witnessed 14 IKF bouts with 4 IKF titles. The event also featured the official beginning of both the Amateur and Pro, IKF San Shou: Divisions.

The main event featured IKF Light Middleweight Full Contact Rules Champion Randy Bussart (18-1 with 4 KO's) of Vacaville, CA, USA vs Miguel Reyes (26-5 with 15 KO's) of Poway, CA, USA for the vacant IKF Pro Full Contact Rules United States Welterweight Title. Bussart outkicked Reyes 97 to 63 and Reyes failed to get his kicks in, in 5 rounds, losing him 4 points on the judges cards but the point deduction did not effect the bout scores. (First missed kick round is only a warning in IKF) Bussart won the vacant title by Unanimous decision, 79-69, 80-68 and 79-71 in a bout that was scheduled for 8 rounds instead of the required 10 for a National Full Contact Rules Title.

Past 3 time undefeated IKF National Full Contact Rules Amateur Champion Dave Marinoble (12-0-2 with 5 KO's) of Roseville, CA, USA faced up against seasoned pro, Larry Jarret (34-4 with 14 KO's) of Florida, USA for the vacant IKF Pro Full Contact Rules United States Middleweight Title. Marinoble fought a very composed fight out kicking Jarrett 109 kicks to Jarret's 79. Although Jarret missed his minimum kicks in 3 of the 10 round bout, the point deductions (2 from each judge total) did not effect the scores as Marinoble looked like a new fighter against Jarrett, calming down and setting a very relaxed pace with the help of cornerman Mike Dougherty, unlike the "Madman" of the past. He won every round on every judges card except for the 2 rounds, 1 judge gave to Jarrett. Marinoble won by unanimous decision, 100-88, 100-88 and 98-90 to claim the vacant IKF US Pro Full Contact Rules Middleweight title.

The IKF Officially Begin their San Shou Division with 2 San Shou Title bouts. Al Loriaux of Boston, MA, USA defeated Sean Douglas of Dayton Ohio, via, San Jose, CA, USA by Injury TKO when Douglas attempted a jumping leg scissor takedown and landed wrong on his arm and injuring it. Since Loriaux was ahead on points at the time of the injury and Douglas could not continue, Loriaux became the first ever, IKF San Shou Champion winning the IKF San Shou Rules, U. S. Super Welterweight Title. This bout was later ruled a "No Contest".

In the other San Shou title bout, 2 time National Amateur San Shou Champion Rudi Ott (18-1/2, Boston, MA, USA) stopped Cary Nathan (Redwood City, CA, USA) by KO at 1:45 of the 3rd round to win the IKF San Shou Rules US Super Middleweight Title.

Danny Kelly of San Jose, CA, USA captured the IKF Amateur International Rules Light Heavyweight title by forfeit when his opponent, Darren Freeman did not show up at the scheduled weigh-ins or the event.

   Chhim was a bit out of his element since he mainly fights Muay Thai Rules. He's the IKF Amateur US Featherweight Muay Thai Rules Champion, but he can't seem to get matched so he took the bout against the experienced Tsutsui. Tsutsui outkicked Chhim 42 kicks to 25 in the 3 round bout.
   
   
9. IKF AMATEUR International Rules
   IKF Super Welterweight International Rules Champion Yia Mua (Fresno, California, USA, 7-0 with 4 KO's) was all ready to fight IKF International Rules Welterweight Champion Juan Escobar (Gilroy, California, USA, 8-2 with 5 KO's) but Escobar pulled out of the fight the night before claiming to have an arm injury. The IKF has yet to receive a medical report from Escobar or his trainers to confirm this which is mandatory since it happened 48 hours prior to a title bout.

Our staff of Fantastic event officials included: Judges: Alan Rayes, Susan Thomas-Gitlan and Butch Stell. We were truly blessed with 2 FANTASTIC referees in IKF Co-Founder and IKF Head of Officials, Dan Stell and veteran IKF Referee Jon D. Schorle II who has been with the IKF since the start back in 1992. Timekeeper: Stan Gorden, Ring Announcer Shawn Silva. The Medical Doctors were from the California State Athletic Commission and although all 3 were licensed Medical Doctors, we could have done without their complaining about things that were unrelated to their job as ring doctors...Enough said...

But NOT the Pocketbook!

Now for the bad news...IKF Promoter Tim Stell had the best of both worlds on Saturday night, March 20th for his event at the Vallejo Fairgrounds in Vallejo, CA, USA. A Packed house and "14" GREAT bouts. However, what was noticeable to the eye had a disturbing "Other" fact. Although the event building was packed with a head count of well over 1,300 spectators, the California State Athletic Commission Report only had about 650 sold tickets and a Gross gate of about $12,000. From what Promoter Tim Stell and the IKF discovered, it was obvious that some ticket swapping was taking place. "We should have had a gate of over $20,000 with the crowd we had" said Stell. All tickets were accounted for so nothing went on behind the scene as one may wish to think. Stell has promoted QUALITY first class events for years and has never had a problem like this before.

Apparently, ticket takers at the doors forgot to stamp hands and tear tickets as spectators went in and out and from what we can tell, MANY exchanged their tickets with friends outside. A single ticket could have been used SEVERAL times for entree. "It's a shame that this kind of thing happens to a promoter who is trying to offer everyone something." said IKF President Steve Fossum. "Sadly as well, the same people who want to see larger purses in kickboxing are probably some of the same people who basically took money out of the promoters pocket tonight to try to save their friends a few bucks." Stell's purse pay out to the Pro Fighters on the event alone was over $12,000. So you can see where the loss hurt deep. 100% of the fighters purses were paid, but there were other expenses such as, the venue rental of $1,500+, Insurance of about $100 per fighter, Event liability insurance, hotels, meals for fighters, plane tickets for about 8 fighters and trainers as far away as the East Coast USA, and other parts of the US, event advertising, ring rental, staff payout, state commission taxes and officials expenses which Mr. Stell had to pay as well. The IKF helped out Mr. Stell by discounting his sanctioning fees by 50% and offering to pay for the 5 event title belts. Mr. Fossum went on to comment, Having a small crowd is one thing. This means a promoter didn't do his marketing, promotions etc. Mr. Stell had a BIG crowd. Getting "Ripped Off" is a whole different ballgame! I had this happen to me in an event in Roseville, CA and I later found out it was of all people, a TRAINER and his people who let A LOT of people in the back door. From our count, over 300 spectators walked in for free. We hate to see ANY promoter lose money in the sport when money is a BIG issue to things such as fighters purses. As the IKF, we will do our best to help out quality promoters such as Mr. Stell who was obviously a victim here. We would hope others would do the same.

Mr. Stell, may never promote again due to the loss he took on this event which will be close to $10,000 plus. If so, there goes another promoter who was willing to pay out great purses for pro fighters. If any of you feel like helping out Mr. Stell and want to be a part of his next event "IF" he ever is able to promote again, he would sure appreciate it. Mr. Stell didn't ask us to ask you for help. We're doing this all on our own, to help keep him as a great promoter for you, the fighters and fans of the sport. Defend IKF World Titles Successfully!

It was announced as WORLD WAR III and from the results, this war was a GREAT ONE! IKF Promoter and World Super Heavyweight Muay Thai Rules Champion Duke Roufus (212 lbs, 32-4-1 with 24 KO's) proved to everyone that the true reason it took him the full 5 scheduled rounds to first win the title by decision a few months back was CLEARLY due to the fact he was nursing 2 injuries to his right hand and ankle. Roufus quieted all the critics by starting hard and fast and then landed the "A Bomb" on Australia's WKA World Champion Grant "The Bomber" Barker (211 lbs, 41-11 with 32 KO's). In a combination which included a leg kick, 2 knees to Barker's head and finished with a high head kick, Roufus only took 39 seconds to Knockout the Australian in the opening round of the scheduled 5 round Muay Thai bout this last Friday night, March 19th at the Eagles Club Stadium in Milwaukee Wisconsin, USA.

After Roufus first won the title on December 8th, 1998, there were some "so called" critics who had made comments about Roufus' skill when he went the entire 5 scheduled rounds (5 X 3) against Hirawa TeRangi of Auckland, New Zealand when other Super Heavyweights had stopped TeRangi in earlier rounds. However, after his performance against Barker, those critics can "Rest in Peace" as Duke proved once again that, "DUKE" Roufus is the MAN to beat in Leg Kicks and Muay Thai fighting!

After his win, Roufus had a special announcement to make. That he was hanging up the Combination "Fighting-Promoting" gloves for good. Roufus let his hometown crowd in Milwaukee, Wisconsin USA know that he will no longer be doing the work of "Promoter" and "Fighter" on the same event. However, nothing says that Roufus is ready to hang up the fight gloves for good because as the saying goes, "Money Talks". Now Roufus will look to have other promoters promote him on their events and there are many interesting offers. It would be nice to see Duke scheduled to fight in K-1 with more than 2 weeks notice like the only 2 times he was ever in the tournament. If K-1 comes in with a good offer and not a Last Minute Offer, Roufus may be ready to steal the show! Other offers that are currently on the table for Roufus will include some traveling to defend his World Title in England, Australia and other parts of USA.

Roufus as we have said before is one of the most active IKF promoters "WORLDWIDE". With 3 events completed, he and his promotional TEAM currently have 11 "MORE" events booked with the IKF in 1999. That schedule could expand to as many as 6 "MORE" events added to the already 11. The IKF Milwaukee Fitness & Phetnoi Gym Promotional Teamare moving strong and hard and are CLEARLY setting the pace for MUAY THAI here in North America. They have done more for the growth of Pro as well as amateur Muay Thai in North America than "ANY" other promoter "EVER" has because they have featured EVENLY MATCHED bouts from "WELL KNOWN" INTERNATIONAL Champions from all over the world. They are clearly, THE REAL DEAL!!!!

In the second IKF World Title bout of the night, Milwaukee Phetnoi Gym's Kongnapa, "King of the Sky" (150 lbs, 4-time Ratchdamnern Thailand Stadium Champion with over 180 bouts) of Thailand successfully defend his IKF Pro Junior Middleweight Muay Thai Rules World title with a 5 round unanimous decision against ISKA & WKA Champion, Marcus "Mad Dog" Mangan (147.5 lbs, 30-3-3 with 22 KO's ) of Australia, 48-46, 49-44 and 50-44. Once again, Kongnapa was faced with a World Class opponent as he was last month in Eval Denton of England. Proof once again that the Milwaukee Kickboxing Promotional Team is not just bringing in people to be beat like we have seen in other promotions across the globe. This was Kongnapa's second title defense in a row against a top ranked fighter. In the second round, it looked as if Kongnapa could put Mangan away but Mangan fought back strong and answered back with some great combinations of his own. Kongnapa used several leg sweeps to disrupt Mangan throughout the bout which seemed to be a major factor on Mangan's ability to counter or attack. The sweeps combined with Kongnapa's hand and feet combinations seemed to throw off Mangan's timing just as he would seem to get any rhythm going. This was a great fight and was the most exciting fight of the night as Mangan proved to the American crowd, the Aussie's came to FIGHT! This will not be Mangan's only shot at an IKF World Title. We plan to see a lot more of him in both the Muay Thai and International Rules divisions later this year. Mangan, as well as Grant Barker would be much stronger fighters at a lower weight class. We'll see what the future brings them both. Watch out World... Don't count these Aussie's out!!! All Great fighters will suffer some loses here and there. But what makes them real champions, are the ones who comeback and win another day! And we are sure to see this in the future!

Another VERY EXCITING bout featured Dan Rawlings of Euclid Ohio, USA against Khan Phetvixay of Milwaukee, Wisconsin USA. Rawlings came in nearly 6 lbs under weight but accepted the bout anyway with approval of the IKF to allow him to if desired. Phetvixay rocked Rawlings with a leg kick in the second round that forced referee Al Wichers to give him a standing 8 count, but from that moment on, this bout was ALL RAWLINGS!

Rawlings came back to DOMINATE this bout with some of the most exciting hand, knee and kick combinations we have ever seen. After taking several blows, Phetvixay should have been given a standing 8 in round 3 but referee Al Wichers choose not to. However, in round 4, Rawlings attack was even better, this time forced Phetvixay to a standing 8 count after a great flurry that ended with a STRONG right hand to Phetvixay's head. Rawlings seemed to land his jab and right hand at will as he dominated the final round but just couldn't put Phetvixay away who proved to be a very strong fighter. Rawlings won the bout by unanimous decision, 48-45, 47-44 and 49-44.

In the other bouts Derek Yuen of Milwaukee Wisconsin, USA defeated Shane Meads of Sydney, Australia by unanimous decision, 29-27, 30-26 and 29-28. This was Meads first amateur bout and did very well against Yuen. We hope to see a lot more of Meads in the future and on some upcoming IKF Australia events.

In a rematch of two tough heavyweights, Jim Heberer of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA defeated Guiseppe Denatale of Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada by unanimous decision, 50-45 on all 3 judges cards. Heberer had won the first meeting between the two several months ago in a much closer match. However, on this occasion, Heberer seemed to dominate the inside fight with a much improved knee attack.

Jason Dent of Madison Ohio, USA and Vin Bounnavong of Milwaukee Wisconsin, USA were scheduled to fight but neither came in at their "BOOKED" weight of 165 lbs. Dent weighed in the afternoon before the event at 153 lbs while Bounnavong weighed in at 169 the night before the bout but jumped to 180 the afternoon of the event... So much for trying to lose those extra pounds. FIGHTERS!!! Come IN at your BOOKED WEIGHT!!! Be professional and you'll always be treated as PROFESSIONALS, even as amateurs! Lets be serious about our work!

IKF Does TITLE BELTS!

Now that we have our New IKF Logo, the next step is the creating of our new IKF Championship Title Belts! They should be coming real soon now because in case you hadn't heard..... We are proud to present the NEW Division of the IKF, "International Awards and Apparel" IAA will now be doing all the IKF Title belts. When we started checking around, we found out MANY OTHERS were having the SAME problems with the same company as we were which all had to do with "Customer Relations" and the VAST Variation of belt fees. I guess when they had no competition, these were easy things to overlook. We discovered that the belts we were paying $200.00 for, others were paying "HALF" that! Finally, after making several contacts, it turns out we will be doing more than just the IKF Title Belts. We have already received confrimation from over 20 different award companies across the United States, Canada and Mexico and we haven't even started to advertise the company officially yet. Wait till that happens. This new division will also be doing Title Belts for Many other Sanctioning Organizations including amateur and pro kickboxing and boxing, submission fighting, wrestling and martial arts. IAA will do Title Belts for all fighting arts and organizations. Even our competition. We just want to offer a choice of a great Quality Title Belt. And to think, this idea was started because of problems we had with our previous belt manufacturer. Hmmm. Kinda like Why and How the IKF was founded years ago. Lookout Title Belt competition, we all know what happened to the kickboxing world when the IKF was formed. And all because we weren't happy... Hmmm... Now We're Gunna Have Some FUN!!!

• All Regionals are open to both men and women "AMATEURS" ages 16 and up.
  
  
• REGISTRATION
  The registration fee for the regionals is $35 per fighter. This fee is paid directly to your tournament promoter by the deadlines given above. $20 goes to the event promoter for promotional expenses (Officials, venue etc) and $15 goes to the IKF for each fighters tournament registration. There will be NO LATE REGISTRATIONS! NO Exceptions!
  
  
• TRAVEL EXPENSES
  Since this is a TOURNAMENT and not a General event, all fighters are required to pay their own travel expenses. We suggest each fighter to seek *SPONSORS to pay for their travel expenses and in return, list these sponsors on your fight bio for the tournament program. You can also have your * sponsors names on your fight clothes.
  • (*) Since the tournament is sponsored by the IKF and RINGSIDE INC. Some sponsors will not be allowed to be announced or displayed in any way in the tournament. They include: Other sanctioning organizations and Fight/Training Equipment companies.
    
    
• WALKOVERS
  Depending upon the number of fighters in each division, some fighters may fight as much as 2 times in 1 day. On the other hand, if a fighter has no one else fighting in their weight class, they may advance to the National Tournament without fighting at all.(Called a "Walkover") If so, they will have the lowest seed (more fights to fight to get to the finals) in the tournament.
  
  
• CHAMPION SEEDING
  All State, REGIONAL (West Coast, East Coast etc) and US Title Holders are required to enter the regionals in their area if they desire to defend their titles. These CURRENT title holders will be seeded accordingly. All title holders who choose not to compete in the tournament will obviously Automatically Forfeit their title to the new champion when crowned. United States Fighters who hold Continental titles are not required to compete to keep their titles, but are welcome to compete for the TRUE National Title if desired.
  
  
• RINGSIDE INC. will supply all the event gloves, awards other items to each event promoter. Fighters may receive discounts on fight gear & wear for the tournament if they are "registered" competitors. For discounts, please contact the IKF or the promoter on your event.

IKF NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP FINALS

The anticipated DATE for the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS will be in August or September. This will give all the fighters time to rest after all the regionals are completed. The final Location for the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS has yet to be announced. Since this is an AMATEUR event, we are looking for a location that will not cost a great deal. Otherwise, the expense would need to be past on to the fighters. Something NONE of us want! We are still looking at various areas of the US. We would like to choose an area that has other activities for fighters, trainers and fans to visit and enjoy while there to make the event a small vacation as well. Areas on the board are: Las Vegas Nevada (Lots of Action) St. Louis Missouri (Centrally Located in the US with a Six Flags Park nearby) , Orlando Florida (Disney World), and some others. We would prefer a Central US location so travel expenses for everyone are kept low. Also, we would like to be in a city near a major airport, again, to keep travel expenses low. Once we determine the final event location, we can address additional sponsorship such as airline discounts, hotel discounts and other discounts for fighters and trainers.

If you have any suggestions or know of someone who can assist in finalizing the National Event with us, "PLEASE" let us know. Remember, we are all a TEAM and we need as much help as possible for this "FIRST EVER EVENT".We hope it's only the start of an event we can all look forward to each and every year to showcase Americas Best Amateur Fighters. If the event is a success, we may look into the idea of doing this in other countries so that we may someday be able to offer a true WORLD AMATEUR CHAMPION. Now that would be FANTASTIC!!!

Bartinelli Stops Rogers
For IKF US Title

IKF Promoter Clement and Rhonda Vierra of Vierra's Kickboxing in Phoenix Arizona, USA have set the stage for the 1999 IKF Hospitality Award. The Vierra's rolled out the Red Carpet for IKF President Steve Fossum and IKF Co-Founder and head of officials Dan Stell proving that they are FULLY CAPABLE to promote IKF Kickboxing in High Gear in the South West United States.

With 15 Officials attending the previous days IKF Officials seminar, Stell and Fossum discussed IKF rules and regulations for nearly 3 hours. The following day, the Vierra's and their IKF Team Arizona played host to a packed house for the "Showdown In Arizona" at the Dynamic Midnight Rodeo Club in Phoenix on Tuesday night, March 9th. The event featured 6 bouts with 2 exhibition all done in the International Rules division.

The main event featured the IKF Amateur United States International Rules Middleweight Title Bout between Anthony Bartinelli (5-0/5) of Phoenix Arizona, USA and Adam Rogers (4-2/2) of Seaside, California, USA. This was a GREAT bout by 2 GREAT Fighters. In round 1, the judges had it split as 2 gave it to Bartinelli 10-9 and 1 to Rogers 10-9. Round 2 got a bit more exciting as Rogers dropped Bartinelli for an 8 count. Rogers won round 2 on all 3 cards, 10-8 with 1 judge scoring it 10-9. Round 3 saw Bartinelli turn up the juice as he forced Rogers to a standing 8. Bartaninelli won round 3 on all the judges cards, 10-8, 10-8 and 10-9. Round 4 started with a flurry from both fighters but Bartinelli started to find the openings on Rogers. It was later discovered that Bartinelli broke Rogers nose near the end of round 3 and Rogers was trying to keep Bartinelli away but he kept taking several solid shots from Bartinelli's hand combinations. Then, at the end of round 4, Bartinelli's combined a straight Right and Left hook that dropped Rogers motionless to the canvas at 1:55 of the 4th round. The punch was so Devistating that Referee Dan Stell was waving the bout off nearly before Rogers hit the floor. Rogers layed on the ring canvas for several minutes with the ringside physicians attending to him before he was assisted from the ring. A Strong Salute goes out to the Phoenix, Arizona crowd for showing "TRUE COMPASSION and RESPECT" for Rogers while he was being tended to in the ring which lasted over 20 minutes as they all awaited the official decision. "This showed A LOT OF CLASS for ARIZONA!" Said IKF President Steve Fossum. "We didn't have a single complaint the entire time from the moment we got off the plane to the moment we arrived back home. It was Excellent from the treatment of us, other officials, fighters, trainers to the great crowd. The Vierra's, their IKF TEAM and Arizona were truly a CLASS ACT!"

Once Rogers was fully tended to, the official announcement was made and Anthony Bartinelli of Vierra's Hard Knocks Gym was crowned the new IKF United States International Rules Middleweight Champion.

   defeated Amber Birt, of Lewis Greens school also in Phoenix Arizona by Majority decision, 29-27, 28-27 and 28-28.
   
   
2. In bout 2, Rick Tybor of John Earley's school in Phoenix Arizona
   defeated Lang'e Payne of Lance Donnell's club also in Phoenix Arizona by unanimous decision 30-27 on all 3 judges cards.
   
   
3. In bout 3, Christina Tapia of Vierra's in Phoenix Arizona
   defeated Dara Plass of Lance Donnell's club also of Phoenix Arizona by TKO at the break of round 1 & 2.
   
   
4. In bout 4, Robert Andrade of Lewis Greens club in Phoenix Arizona
   won by Technical decision/disqualification after Cliford Larson of Camp Verde kicked Andrade in the groin "6" times.
   
   
5. In bout 5, Miguel Medina of Lance Donnell's club in Phoenix Arizona
   defeated Daniel Baxter of Vierra's also in Phoenix Arizona by unanimous decision to win the UAKF State Title.
   
   
6. Todd Whitmoyer of Vierra's school in Phoenix Arizona was scheduled to fight but his opponent, Ruben Acuna dropped out just minutes before the start of the event for unknown reasons. Whitmoyer went on to do an exhibition and from the way he was hitting his friend in the exhibition, Hey Todd, we hope you bought him Steak & Lobster.

The report from Scotland, Saturday 27th February 1999
Congratulations to IKF Scotland Representative Jan Cree and Team who'ROCKED THE RAFTERS' in Scotland. After a delayed start due to the Doctor mislaying his equipment, and having to go back for it, the show started with an excellent exhibition bout. FIONA MUNROE and MORVEN SUMMERS are certainly to women fighters to look out for in the future. Then it was on to business, and we MEAN BUSINESS. The 2nd bout, to quote ALBY BIMPSON IKF European Rep 'Paul Marshall is a star for the future, with the right training and guidance of the Scottish Martial Art Federation, he is sure to make an impact in the future'. On this occasion he was pitted against opponent STUART FLORY, several years his senior. After a shaky start, Paul, who is only 16 years old showed maturity, true grit and with these qualities stopped his opponent in the second round with a TKO.

Bout number 3 between ALEX BUCHAN V ALAN RUSHTON was meant to be a fight, but because of the weight difference, IKF European Rep Alby Bimpson would not allow it. Therefore it was agreed to be an exhibition bout. Unfortunately Alan Rushton got carried away in the 1st round and after repeated warnings from the IKF Scottish Referee Jim Double, was disqualified. Alan Rushton was first to apologise to everyone concerned.

Next came the IKF European Title eliminator between Scotland's ALEX WASINOWICZ v England's ROBBIE WEEDALL. This was the first of two main fights of the night that the capacity crowd, packed to the rafters had come to see. They were not disappointed. Robbie Weedall from Jimmy Crowe's Red Dragon Kickboxing Club, Skelmersdale, had travelled down by choice on the day, whilst Alex spent the day ensuring the smooth running of the forthcoming show, along with Mike McCulloch and Scotland's own Jan Cree. Round 1 - Alex was under attack, with a full arsenal of kicks from Robbie. Alex managed to soak up this punishment and retaliate with good hand combinations. Round 2 - This started differently with Alex pressing forward, which showed he was the stronger of the two. Pushing Weedall back onto the ropes and letting go with some lovely body shots which seemed to stun Weedall. Alex took full advantage of this, letting go with combinations with hands and feet. Weedall still was not deterred until a vicious Right hand damaged his nose. The bell went to end the round. The Doctor was called to examine Weedall's nose. It was agreed with the fighter and the corner to stop the fight, to prevent further damage. This was an excellent fight for the short time it lasted, with Alex producing the goods on the night. He will now go forward for a title fight. Full respect to Robbie Weedall who will now drop down a weight, and be a FORCE to be reckoned with.

5TH Bout, PAUL SHERIFFS vs JOHN COOPER was developing into an exciting fight. Both fighters had been warned by IKF referee Jim Double, on the lack of kicks per round. The fight was going backwards and forwards with both fighters giving there all, which was acknowledged by the crowd, who were standing with excitement. Un fortunately the fight came to an abrupt end in the 3rd round when JOHN COOPER slipped and fell between the ropes. After the Doctor examined the fighter it was agreed to declare a draw. This is a rematch NOT TO BE MISSED.

6TH BOUT -BRIAN GRAY vs BILLY WHITTON. Another fight that had the crowd on their feet. Both fighters gave their ALL and were warned on numerous occasions on their kickcounts. This fight went the distance, with a unanimous decision to BRIAN GREY.

BOUT 7: For the IKF Scottish National Title 78kg, between WULLIE ROBBIE and DARREN MOIR. Wullie Robbie, trained by Alex Wasinowicz, was certainly up for this fight. Starting the fight in EXPLOSIVE FORM, going straight for his opponent which certainly pleased the crowd. MOIR seemed shocked at the pace in which Robbie started, and tried to slow the pace down. Robbie was having none of this, and came out in the 2nd round the same way, never letting up with his aggression, and seemed to want the title that bit more. This was proven in the 3rd round with a TKO, to make him the New IKF Scottish National Super Middleweight Champion to the elation of the crowd.

This ended a great night of Kickboxing, leaving the crowd begging for more. With a TEAM such as Jan Cree, Mike McCulloch and Alex Wasinowicz, there can only be great things ahead for the IKF in Scotland. What an incredible, high-intensity event at The RAVE!  The fights were great!  The fans were great!  The only problem was seating: The Rave was sold-out, with people having to stand wherever they could find some space. If fan turnout provides any indication of kickboxing's future, this sport is on FIRE!

Likewise, the fighters were on fire, pouring their hearts and souls into each round. It wasn't about money. It wasn't about endorsements. It wasn't about contracts. It was all about heart and soul!  Each fighter had a fire in his or her eyes; it was a desire to give 101%.  The event's witty and ever-articulate ring announcer, Duke Roufus, who holds the IKF World Muay Thai Super Heavyweight Title, even jested after a welterweight match, "I hope those boys don't grow up to be heavyweights!"  The fighters were all amateurs -- many of which were making their ring debuts.  However, each exhibited the heart of a future champion.

As such, kickboxing's renaissance is now. The fans are fired-up. The fighters are fired-up. The sport is no longer just surviving, but it's now thriving.  Kickboxing in Milwaukee has served as a testament to the preceding sentence. Thriving, not just surviving.

1. Women's Exhibition
   Nicole Rolain (Thaiger Medina) vs. Sarah Ollinger (Phetnoi) - Exhibition Draw.
   Round 1:  Nicole effectively used a right low kick followed by a right cross. Solid exchanges between both fighters. Sarah kept on the move.
   Round 2:  Sarah showed strong ring generalship by employing solid knee and punch combo attacks.  Great first fight of the evening!
   
   
2. Featherweight - 126 lbs
   Josh Tarman (Phetnoi) defeated John Ferer (Sik Tai) - Split Decision.
   Round 1:  John constantly fired the teep (push-kick), keeping Josh at bay.  Josh started to get some solid punches off, which backed up John.
   Round 2:  Crowd was LOUD!  Both fighters were fired up and exhibiting awesome amateur action. Josh unloaded a wicked left cross that dropped John. John got up by the count of 8.
   Round 3:  "The only easy day was yesterday!"  What a war!  John rocked Josh with a big right hand early, but Josh floored John late in the round with another left cross. Great fight, guys!
   
   
3. Women's Exhibition
   Ruth O'Malley (Phetnoi) vs. Julie Jackle (Phetnoi) - Exhibition Draw.
   Round 1:  This may have been Julie's ring debut, but she sure showed a lot of mettle!  Ruth moved very well, while Julie showed great athleticism with her incessant head kicks!
   Round 2:  Ruth fired solid leg kicks. Julie responded with middle and high kicks. "Muay" bien, chicas!
   
   
4. Lightweight - 135 lbs
   Johnny "Baby Boy Bomber" Corro (Phetnoi) defeated Brian Helfrich (Extreme Team) - Unanimous Decision.
   Round 1:  This was a veritable knee festival, as both fighters clinched and threw knee after knee after knee!  Johnny punctuated the round with a blazing right leg head kick!  Poetry in motion, "Baby Boy Bomber!"
   Round 2:  Brian remained steadfast and worked Johnny hard. Good movement by both combatants!
   Round 3:  Brian, just 15 years old, powered ahead at Johnny. Brian did 3 illegal throws, which resulted in a one point deduction. Johnny fired a solid right leg kick which visibly shook Brian.  Beautiful fight, gentlemen! We expect to see more of Brian and Johnny in the future!
   
   
5. Junior Welterweight - 140 lbs
   Nick Hare (Phetnoi) defeated Guss Denatale (Sik Tai) - Unanimous Decision.
   Round 1:  Guss was buff!  This was a classic battle between Guss' size and Nick's reach.  Guss dug in while Nick stuck to the outside. Nick unleashed a right leg head kick that lifted the Canadian strongman off his feet!  The audience was clearly impressed at the power these 140 pounders generated!
   Round 2:  Guss peppered a very hard low kick. Nick responded with knees and his spectacular high kick. Great round for both fighters!
   Round 3:  Nick threw a crisp left leg head kick that connected fully.  What happened to Guss?  He took it like a rock!  Impressed by Guss' style, Duke Roufus nicknamed him "The Raging Bull." Super great job, "Quick" Nick and Guss "The Raging Bull!"
   
   
6. Junior Lightweight - 130 lbs
   Russell Mapue (Sik Tai) defeated "G.I." Joe Tarman (Phetnoi) TKO in round 1.
   Round 1: Russell worked a solid low kick and push kick. Joe hung tough, but Russell caught him with a punch that eventually led to a "doc stoppage."  Joe unfortunately didn't get much opportunity to showcase his skills. As such, a rematch is in order between these two bravehearts!
   
   
7. Cruiserweight Exhibition - 195 lbs
   Chris "Big Boss Man" Butler (Phetnoi) vs. Harvey "Inca" Grasse (Phetnoi) - Exhibition Draw.
   Round 1:  WOW.  These two paced themselves extremely well!  Amateurs stereotypically run out of gas at the end of a round, but not these two!  Harvey and Chris showed great composure.
   Round 2:  Harvey and Chris exchanged kicks repeatedly, with Harvey working the middle kick well and Chris going high. This was the ring debut for both these prospects, but you wouldn't have been able to tell considering how loud the crowd was! Grrrrrreat job, gents!
   
   
8. Junior Middleweight - 154 lbs
   Jason Sell (Phetnoi) defeated Dan Yanes (Extreme Team) - Unanimous Decision.
   Round 1:  VERY fast start by both fighters!  Dan wanted to grapple and powered his way to the inside.  Jason fired an awesome barrage of knees!
   Round 2:  Dan fired a hard low kick at Jason at the beginning of the round. Dan seemed to run out of gas midway through the round, which prompted Jason to take control.
   Round 3:  Keeping his hands high, Jason had an impeccable defense. Dan dug deep and showed the heart of a champion. Unequivocally, these two kickboxers lived up to the distinction of "awesome amateurs!" We hope to see more of these two in the near future!
   
   
9. Middleweight - 160 lbs
   Tony "Razzle Dazzle" Randazzo (Phetnoi) defeated Kevin Sellers (Siam Gym) - TKO, Round 2.
   Round 1:  The "Razzle Dazzle" entourage was in full effect this evening, as the crowd erupted at his introduction.  Tony pressed the action early with great knee work!  Kevin was no slouch, though, as he kept on the move and stuck to Tony.
   Round 2:  Tony's conditioning was unquestioned, as he utilized an incessant punch attack to get the TKO win. We certainly tip our hats to Kevin and all the other fighters. It takes guts to climb into the "square circle," and Kevin and Tony proved themselves as did the other combatants this evening!
   
   
10. Super Middleweight - 168 lbs
    Ryan Klagmann (Phetnoi) defeated Mark Danreiter (Extreme Team) - KO, Round 2.
    KICK OF THE NIGHT!
    Round 1:  What a smoker!  Incredible action!  Ryan skillfully fired a right uppercut that sent Mark to the canvas. Mark was up by the count of 8 and showed he wasn't finished. Ryan continued to press the action with a sweet middle kick.
    Round 2:  Mark stayed strong. IKF Referee Al Wichgers gave Mark a standing eight count after Ryan connected with a leg kick. The end of the fight came from the "Kick of the night," as Ryan KO'd the Extreme Team member with a picture-perfect left leg head kick! Mark and Ryan put on a barnburner!  Congratulations to both fighters for carrying themselves as "awesome amateurs!"
    
    
11. Welterweight - 147 lbs
    Joe Zychowka (Sik Tai) defeated Mike McCormack (Thaiger Medina) - Unanimous Decision.
    FIGHT OF THE NIGHT!
    Round 1:  Holy cow!  These two must have gulped some jet fuel before the fight!  Mike fired first, but Joe responded. The crowd was going wild for these two guys. Joe got in some BIG knees!
    Round 2:  Like the first round, the second was another spectacular, action-packed see-saw battle!  Mike unloaded a textbook hook that dazed Joe. Neither fighter could break the will of the other. The crowd was equally fired-up as the competitors!
    Round 3: Joe started the round with a flying knee! Later in the round Joe connected with a hard knee that resulted in a standing eight count for Mike. Mike fought back HARD! Great fight with great sportsmanship! The fans want a rematch between these two awesome warriors!
    
    
12. Light Cruiserweight - 182 lbs
    Justin Lemke (Phetnoi) defeated Mike Mattox (Extreme Team) - Unanimous Decision.
    Round 1: Time for the big boys to rumble! Mike worked the push-kick well. Justin was superbly technical; he put together great punch-kick combos. The crowd was ecstatic! Great defense by both fighters.
    Round 2: It was knees galore at the beginning of the round. Back-and-forth war.  Justin pressed the action more, but Mike exhibited a very solid defense.
    Round 3: Justin gets off the flying knee! "Fly like an eagle..."  Justin then fired a right push-kick to the head of Mike, which floored the Extreme Team member. Mike wasn't finished, as he dug in with Justin. Great, action - packed war!  Super job, you two!
    
    
13. Welterweight - 147 lbs
    Neal "Steel" Fox (Phetnoi) drew Joey "Baby-Faced Assassin" Corro (Phetnoi).
    Round 1: Great high kicks by Joey.  Neal was ripped and very strong! This round turned out to be a war between Joey the technician and Neal the bull.
    Round 2: Round started with an awesome head kick by Joey! Neal eventually worked Joey into the corner and unloaded a barrage of punches!
    Round 3: This fight was great and proved to be tough to judge. Both fighters threw kick after kick after kick! Neal was relentless, even after he took a BIG right hand from the "Baby-Faced Assassin."  Way to go, guys! We hope to see you both soon!
    
    
14. Middleweight - 160 lbs
    Travis Riviera (Thaiger Medina) defeated Mark Durant (Sik Tai) - Split Decision.
    Round 1: Both fighters came out with something to prove! Travis fired a devastating right leg kick. Mark followed with a solid right hand! Fast-paced fight. Great sportsmanship.
    Round 2: Mark was warned for illegal throwing. Travis landed a hard right leg kick. Mark showcased his skills with a spinning back kick!
    Round 3: Travis and Mark exchanged solid leg kicks! Travis and Mark certainly gave a great showing of themselves! 
    Don't be surprised if some day you see these two gracing the cover of Wheaties!
    
    
15. Cruiserweight - 195 lbs
    "Bad" Brad Fowler (Phetnoi) defeated Richard "Lionheart" Dilay (Sik Tai) - Unanimous Decision.
    Round 1: Big, strong, and both were ready to "get it on!" Richard came out with a flying kick. Both fighters moved very well. Brad pressed the action, working a right leg low kick.
    Round 2:  Brad continued to press the action against the well-built Richard. The round ended with both in the clinch; Brad took advantage of the situation with a barrage of knees!
    Round 3: The crowd was going wild. Each time Brad threw a knee, the fans responded with an "OOOOHH!" Richard worked his right hand proficiently. Brad stunned the formidable Sik Tai amateur with a right cross at the bell!  This was a great fight!  What an ending to a spectacular evening of kickboxing!

February 28th - Viseu, Portugal

IKF Promoter Fernando Loio hosted his first IKF sanctioned events for 1999 on Sunday, February 28th, 1999 at Trofeu Cidade de Viseu, Portugal. The event, III Viseu City Trophy had some obvious controversy about the event as the fight ring collapse several times. The final time came during the Main Event. It was the fight for the vacant IKF Pro Full Contact Rules European Title bout between Mário Monteiro of Portugal and Phillip Heridge of England. during one of the rounds, a ring board broke away yet again as Heridge's leg dropped through the hole with the top ring canvas. Although injured, he choose to fight on despite a clear knee injury. Later in the bout, the ring gave way again, this time injuring Heridge yet again. This time he could not continue. At this point, the judges scorecards were tallied and to the surprise of many, all 3 of the Portugal judges had Monteiro as the winner.

The main featured Manual Quezada of Bakersfield, CA, USA (5-3 with 3 KO's) and Dewey Cooper of Las Vegas Nevada, USA (10-0 with 8 KO's) fighting for the IKF'S International Rules West Coast Heavyweight Title.
