281-286!
AND STILL COUNTING...

Yesterday we broke our own record of total number of registered fighters. The old record, which was set last year was 280. Yesterday that record was broken and today it stands at 286. Of those 286, 281 are still confirmed to show up in Orlando to "Walk The Walk!"

Of all the states, Florida is leading the way in two categories. They lead in the number of registered fighters at 92. However, that number could have been larger because they also lead in number of fighters who have dropped out of the tournament already. Of the 5 who have dropped out, 4 of them are from Florida.

Today past deadline number "5". As of now, the registration fee stands at $135. This fee will expire at midnight on June 30th. On July 1st the fee goes up to $155 until July 9th at 3:00 PM. After July 9th, registrations are closed.

  10. IKF AMATEUR MUAY THAI SOUTHWEST REGIONAL
    LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE

    *5 ROUNDS, *Approved by IKF.

Cecil Tudor (Golden Cobra / Blue Collar Glendale, AZ) VS Frank Bamford (Team Kongnapa)

ROUND 1: This was a great fight from the start to the end! The first round saw Tudor landing good leg kicks and punches to the body. Bamford was coming forward trying to get in but Tudor did a good job keeping him on the outside. Tudor wins round by 2 of the three judges.

Round 2: saw more of the same from both sides, but in this round, the knees started to come into play. A lot of body work from Tudor and from it, he wins the round on all 3 judges score cards.

Round 3: In this round Tudor came out hard in this round with good leg kicks and good punch combos. Then in the middle or the round Tudor lands a hard right hand that hurt Bamford bad. But Tudor couldn't land the KO blow. Bamford in turn, turned it back up on Tudor at the end of the round. Once again, Tudor wins the round on all score cards.

Round 4: In the 4th round Bamford came out hard. either because he knew he was behind on the score cards or because he was simply getting stronger by this round. He hit Tudor with good kicks and punches but his best work was on the inside with his kness to the Tudor's bodyr. Tudor looked like he was trying to get his wind back from the last round when he was trying for the Knock Out however Bamford won the round on two of the three judges score cards.

Round 4: The 5th and final round was a Great Round! Back and forth these two threw some great exchanges! It was clear, both fighters knew they may need this round to win the title. Simply put, this was a great fight, one I know the fans would like to see a rematch of! I know I would.

The last round goes to Bamford by two of the three Judges but it was too little, too late. It was close, but on this night Cecil Tudor took the unanimous decision, 49-46, 48-47 and 48-47 to win the vacant IKF Amateur Muay Thai Southwest Light Heavyweight Title

Get Your Ads IN!
The 2010 IKF World Classic Program Book!
PROGRAM AD & VENDOR BOOTH
DEADLINE IS
FRIDAY, JULY 2nd!

As many here know, every year now "Foster Graphics" - www.FosterGraphics.com has been creating a top quality IKF program book for the IKF World Classic Tournament. Along with the usual sponsor ads comes something very unique... EVERY Fighters Name!

Yes, over 250 names will grace the inside pages once again and will, as always, include each fighters name, city, state, country, weight, height, trainers name and contact numbers. Not only is it a great souvenir for every fighter and their families, but it's also a "Matchmakers DREAM Book!"

Every year, matchmakers and scouts from promotions around the globe attend the IKF World Classic looking for top talent for their events. If they would allow is to, we would love to tell you who has been hidden in the crowd in the past and who plans to be there this year. However, they have always respectfully asked us to keep quiet about who they are and who they represent. What we can say is that this year there will be some big names there representing both Kickboxing/Muay Thai and MMA (Mixed Martial Arts).

The program is a full 8&1/2 X 11 inches in size. Ads very from a business card size ad starting at $50 up to a full page, full color for the back cover and inside back cover. All inside ads are done in black and white but the outside cover pages will be color ads. As of today, the back cover is still available, but we have had 2 sponsors that say they want it.

There will be some other additions to the program as well such as some feature articles and of course, LOADS OF PHOTOS From Past IKF Tournaments!

So far for 2010 the IKF has headline sponsor commitments from Combat Sports International/Ringside, and FL Dean Insurance. BrainPad will be attending again providing gifts for all the fighters as always. Fighters Inc. will be supplying one of the fight rings this year along with having their equipment booth there as they did last year. Wintensity will be available for more information following their dynamic free seminar on Friday night. As always, Glenn Berg Photography will be the official photography company of the IKF World Classic and of course, the International Fight Sports booth will be filled with fight merchandise from the IKF, ISCF MMA and IAB Boxing! Shirts, hats, sweatshirts, event T's and tons more.

Although not confirmed yet but plan to within the week are other vendor booths such as Ringstar Shoes, NewBreed fighters clothing and Competitive Ace, retailers of Namman Muay Thai liniment. The actual booth deadline is July 2nd so no telling who all will be there.

"WHO" WILL BE THERE
WILL MAKE UP FOR THE CROWD NUMBERS...

Most sponsors or product merchandisers look for large numbers of people to be seen by. However, at the IKF World Classic, it's been a long traditional understanding that "It's not how many people are there to see you, but WHO is there."

We can tell you right now, you won't see tens of thousands of people filling the ballroom at the Orlando World Center Marriott on Tournament weekend. What you will see though are the "Who's Who" of the Kickboxing and Muay Thai fight world as well as some from MMA and Boxing. Top trainers, gym owners and dedicated athletes, all of them looking for the right connection with the right fight sport companies to align with. Relationships will be made and the future is bright for those connections made, LONG past the final bell of the tournament. If you happen to be a vendor at the IKF World Classic this year, don't expect to make a killing AT the event, but be ready for your sales AFTER the event. Have plenty of business cards, brochures and other handouts because it's AFTER the Tournament where most vendors make their wage from the relationships they made.

SPONSOR GIFTS!
For nearly every IKF Tournament there are two company names that literally grew their name from the Tournament. Ringside Inc. was already a major player in the Boxing world. However, their sales in Kickboxing and Muay Thai were far from exciting. IKF President Steve Fossum and then Ringside representative Joe Taylor made a connection over the phone and soon after, the rest was History.

Ringside and the IKF teamed up to sponsor the very first IKF Tournament in 1999, "The IKF/Ringside USA National Amateur Kickboxing Championships" As the years went by, sales became so large for their Kickboxing and MMA that Joe Taylor and Ringside owner John Brown made the decision to add an entirely new company for fight sports other than Boxing known as Combat Sports International. Soon after, MMA exploded and once again, the rest is history.

Every year Ringside or now, Combat Sports International with the efforts of now President Joe Taylor, give away free gifts to every participant as well as free Autograph Gloves to every IKF Tournament Champion. Simply put, when the event is over, their marketing company kept one thing in mind... "Give them all something to remember us by..." Mini Keychain Gloves, Handwraps, Trainers Bags, Gym Wall Banners, Champion Jackets and more are just some of the things they have given as FREE sponsor gifts to EVERY fighter since the very first IKF Tournament in 1999. These free gifts have been a major factor in making their company the success it is today.

WHO ELSE BELIEVES IN THE FREE SPONSOR GIFTS?
Has anyone here ever heard of the company called "WIPSS?" Well, maybe not, but some here can still remember that the first name of the custom mouthguard company BRAINPAD was once called Wipss. Brainpad and it's founder Joe Manzo have been with the IKF Tournaments since the seconds one in 2000. Every year they have giving free mouthgurads to EVERY, yes, EVERY FIGHTER in the tournament. This year will be no different with company representative Chris Bolan who will not only have a booth at the event but also help the fighters fit their new Brainpad mouthguard if they want to wear it at the Tournament.

The relationships between Brainpad and the IKF, like Ringside and Combat Sports International goes well beyond the IKF Tournaments. The IKF made a commitment earlier this year to begin the implementation of "Dual Arch" technology (A full upper and lower mouthguard for added safety) as a requirement for every fighter on IKF Sanctioned events beginning in August this year. (The ISCF, ISKA and KICK International also made the commitment after the IKF did)

It's been proven that Brainpads Dual Arch Technology has added a higher level of safety for any fighter taking a shot to the head or jaw as compared to a single guard mouthguard. Like Ringside/Combat Sports International, when every fighter leaves the event, they will surly remember Brainpad for their generous gifts to help them in their fighting career.

WHO ELSE?
What other vendors or sponsors will be giving away free gifts to the fighters and trainers at Friday's registrations and weigh-ins? We hope many more, but if not, one thing is for sure, EVERY FIGHTER will walk away remembering Combat Sports International and Brainpad... Oh. and we hope they remember the IKF as well...

See you all in Orlando!

IKF WORLD CLASSIC INFO!

MANDATORY
To Stay At The Marriott For The IKF World Classic

Some of you may have noticed the little notation near your name where it is listed in the division you are fighting in at the IKF World Classic. It looks like this;

HOTEL ROOM #: _______
Write In At Check-in - PRIVATE to IKF.

This little slot is your final acceptance into the IKF World Classic. We will need your room number placed here by the end of weigh-ins on Friday afternoon which will be 5:30 PM.

The ONLY Fighters who are EXEMPT from this rule are fighters living within 50 miles from the hotel. If so, please bring a copy of a mapquest with your address on it AND A DRIVERS LICENSE for proof of location. Some may be asking WHY we have this rule. Well, the rule helps us in many ways, as well as you.

  1. First, if we need to locate you for a schedule change, bout change, etc. etc, we need to be able to get a message to you easily through our hotel contacts.
  2. If you are injured during the bout and we need to contact your parents, who should also be at the hotel, again, we need to be able to get ahold of you easily.

Those living outside the 50 mile radius and not registered at the host hotel will not be allowed to register to fight. Simply put, we do not want to deal with the problems we have had in the past with issues that arise from the breaking of this rule. Thank you for your understanding.

CHECK YOUR STATS!
CORRECT ALL FALSE OR MISSING INFO

It is MANDATORY for everyone who is registered to fight in the IKF World Classic Tournament to assure ALL your listed stats and information is correct. If any of it is found to be incorrect you risk being dropped from the tournament.
THIS INCLUDES the correct spelling of your name, city, state you are from, trainers name, fight record, HEIGHT, age, date of birth. So at this time we urge ALL Registered Fighters to check out their listing. If something is missing such as your record or height, we need you to e-mail it to us ASAP!

BAD PRINTING?
It is VERY Possible we could not read your writing on your registration forms. We happen to know we have A LOT of cities, trainer names, etc. misspelled or listed incorrect because we simply could not read your writing. This has been especially true for the faxed registrations.

NO SECOND CHANCES!
Your opponents have listed all of their info, but are you someone who did not list your date of birth? Height? or something else? To be fair to Everyone, we make ALL requested info MANDATORY!
You will NOT be given the chance to correct or tell us your correct info AT THE TOURNAMENT!
Once July 2nd has past, we look at all info as truthful and accurate.
IF you have any missing info after July 2nd, even your height, you will be automatically dropped from the tournament.
THIS INCLUDES ANY MMA FIGHTS!

MORE FIGHT NEWS...

Quality Promotions will Resurrect Kickboxing
Thought of the week from AK Promotions: Johnny Davis

It's no secret that Kickboxing has taken a hit in the past few years. Much of it can be blamed on those of us involved in the sport. Lets be clear, Kickboxing is a great sport and one that fight fans around the world appreciate. Although the world had been enthralled with other forms of martial arts for the past few years, those watching closely quickly recognize that its the head kick knockout or the cross, knee to head etc. that gets a crowd on the feet! Therefore, this writer will go as far as saying that one of the best things in the multifaceted sport of MMA is the techniques of Kickboxing. Kickboxing has a chance of standing on its own just as the sport of boxing has over the years even with the onslaught of MMA. Just like all of the talented MMA fighters who are striving to make their mark in their sport, so too are those that are awaiting the opportunity to show how great the sport of Muay Thai and Kickboxing is.

The basics of Kickboxing is truth without saying a word. Solid boxing techniques and basic kicks, knees and in some cases elbows done in combination sounds aloud a simplistic but complex art form that beckons to be recognized.

As fighters, promoters and fans of the sport, we must stand up for Kickboxing and be proud of our accomplishments over the years. We should be proud of the athletes and promoters who have chosen to stick around waiting on this great sport to get new footing. With a few solid promotions over the past year or so from some promoters in the United States and others like in Europe and Mexico for example, the sport is on the rise again! Moreover, while recently scanning the internet, I noticed some organizations calling events world championships and they were being held in unlikely locations that did not have the appearance of world class on it.

However, when you see events like the forthcoming IKF World Classic being held at the largest Marriott in the World in Orlando, Florida, the quality of the event speaks volumes. More than likely this is why the IKF World Classic is in its 12th year with over 200 pre-registered fighters well ahead of the final deadline.

Quality! Passion! Commitment! Sacrifice!

For those wanting to promote the sport, just know that it takes a lot of commitment and practice. Additionally, as many find out, its not a get rich quick game. In fact, it takes many years of sacrifice and one only hopes to see a profit while growing their company. Nevertheless, you, the promoter, must continue to demand quality and organized events with quality athletes that give their best while being professional, even as an Amateur Fighter. The day will come when all of your hard work and efforts will pay off and those from near and afar observing your efforts will applaud! Stay true to this great sport and the resurrection and resurgence of Kickboxing will soon engulf the world stage again...believe it and achieve it! Forward March!

AK Promotions: We hope that you will join AK Promotions for our next event in Sacramento, CA scheduled for July 2nd and after that, another event on September 3rd to continue to support the sport. Furthermore, your support motivates us to rise to each occasion with just a little more confidence that we can reach our goals. IKF Point Muay Thai / Kickboxing…
Ready for the 2010 IKF World Classic

Orlando, Florida, USA

Summer has arrived and so has the time to get registered for the 12th IKF World Kickboxing Classic (July 23rd, 24th and 25th) in Orlando, Florida, USA. This event is one of the most prestigious events for amateur kickboxing in the world! Those who are in the know- know that this event is one that should not be missed especially by those serious about their future as well as adding the words of IKF World Classic Champion to their resume.

The ever-growing IKF Point Muay Thai / Kickboxing Division has been growing in leaps and bounds in the past two years at the World Classic. This year, several gyms are promising to bring out as many fighters as possible that will only make the tournament even better! Already, we are seeing more pre-registrations from semi-contact fighters around the world. As usual, we expect an even bigger group to enter for later registration this year, which is as late as Saturday, July 24th at 12:Noon. The competition will start at 6:PM to be the evening entertainment for the World Classic.

Additionally, with our IKF/ PKB Florida Representative Mr. Jerry Mendez and Mr. Dan Paneda hosting exciting IKF/ PKB Events in Florida in the past year, we are hoping to see a lot more Floridians on board and ready to compete. Both gentlemen will be on hand to assist with officiating.

Men, Women and Children as young as 5 years and as old as "dirt" can compete (lol - :) ), as long as there is someone in their division to fight. The action will be hot but of course as always, the semi contact rule is in full affect as there are NO KNOCKOUTS ALLOWED. There will be divisions in IKF/Point Muay Thai, International Hi Kick and International Low Kick styles. However, sometimes we have to mix and match to assure everyone coming gets a fair fight.

Everyone planning to bring their fighters really needs to know the difference in this competition and what will be going on in the main arena. The semi contact rules must be paramount. However, in saying this, we encourage you to use your speed instead of power and focus on the points and you will have a great time at this event! Moreover, BE IN SHAPE, the 2, 2 minute rounds with 1 round of OT is in affect for this event. We will modify it for the Junior Fighters, but be in shape and ready to rock as these rounds seem a lot longer than it sounds on paper.

Just as last year's event, the World Classic will be held at the largest Marriott in the world in Orlando, Florida. This beautiful location is one that stands out and the luxury rooms and exciting scenery with Disney World just a stone throw away, makes it a great location for such an event. Heck, planning your family's vacation around the tourney at this wonderful location is not a bad idea!

In addition to semi contact, The IKF World Classic will again have the best divisions of Full contact bouts with divisions in Muay Thai, International Hi Kick and International Low Kick styles. Over 200 fighters will travel afar to prove one thing…That they are the best!

Some will come with an illusion of greatness and others will come with a vision for victory but either way, their destiny will need to be decided in the ring! When you get a ton of fighters, trainers and pumped up fans in one room hungry for a fight and hungry for a win…its going to be a lot of fireworks going off even if the 4th of July has past!

We look forward to seeing your there! Remember, Register Early and Save! Forward March! More information on IKF Point Muay Thai / Kickboxing, Contact Johnny Davis at johnnyd@akpromotions.org or (916) 205-4762, (916) 630-9254 or check out www.IKFPKB.com

JUDGES: Thanks in advance too for those that would like to volunteer some time to assist with judging some matches for the PKB. You must be a practicing Kickboxer with at least 4 years experience or a Black Belt Martial artist. You would also have to attend the rules meeting on Friday, July 23rd.

FRIDAY, JUNE 11th
Is Yet Another World Classic Registration Deadline

While you may be waiting to see how tough the competition is in the various divisions, your registration fee is going up every few days... After last Friday, all registrations had a $30 late fee. After 5:00 PM Tomorrow, June 11th, there will be a $40 late fee and there are several other deadline dates to keep track of after that. To know what your fee will be when you register, check out the "Deadline" page by clicking HERE!

Still, even with the late fee, compared to a regular karate style tournament (where base entree fees start at over $100 ) or ANY OTHER KICKBOXING OR MUAY THAI TOURNAMENT, the IKF World Classic offers far more than any event for every participant! The IKF has kept the base registration fee at $55 for "8 YEARS NOW!" Many say the IKF is well deserving of a fee raise and if so, it would indeed help the cost of the tournament a lot.

Keep in mind this event is not just hosted at any basic venue hotel. This event is held in the Grandest of venues, the Marriott World Center which is the Largest Mariott in the World! As former 11 time World Kickboxing Champion Don "The Dragon" Wilson put it, it's "A World Class Venue For A World Class Event!"

It's not like the Champions are receiving cheap awards either. ALL Champions from Juniors to adults will receive a Championship belt valued at over $300.00. But it doesn't stop there, Champions will receive other awards as well and so will every other participant! As in past years, EVERY fighter will be ahead of their $$ after registrations where they all receive gifts from various sponsors worth well over their registration fees.

2 Time IKF World Amateur Champ
Ashley Collins
Ready To Turn Pro!

Ashley Collins, the current IKF World Amateur Light Heavyweight and Light Cruiserweight Champion has brought his amateur career to an end and will be making his debut in the Professional ranks on 5th September.

Ashley has compiled an 18-4-1 amateur record and over the past year alone has won both World titles and made defences of each including two defences of the title at Light Heavyweight. With all that achieved it is felt by his trainer Colin Payne that the time is now right to move on for further challenges.

Ashley won the IKF Light Heavyweight title last May 2009 by knockout in the first round over Travis Mason from Utah, USA. Mason had defeated Collins the previous year at the IKF World Classic Tournament however in the rematch Collins totally dominated and scored a spectacular KO after just 35 seconds. From there Collins made two defences of the title, outpointing both Andreas Hahn from Germany and Cathal Manning from Ireland.

At Light Cruiserweight he had a great two fight series with IKF Cruiserweight World Champion Adam McDermid of Minnesota, USA. In October in Minneapolis Ashley scored a second round KO on Adam and then in the return this year in England he outpointed him in a great fight, Adam pushing him hard but with the knockdown in the fifth round proving decisive.

With no immediate challenges waiting for either title, plans are now in place for a first Professional contest. In September he meets Shaun Forde and has a second contest in place for November with Jamie Bates.

All of us here at the IKF wish Ashley the best as he makes the move from Amateur Champion to hopefully Pro Champion as well.

OVERWHELMED...

Well despite flight delays, lost luggage and a few other issues we made it back from Australia late yesterday after a very successful weekend of seminars for the newly formed IKF South Pacific Team. More news will follow this week about this conference, but for now, it's "Catch-up" time...

Although it's great to be back, we are swamped with working on answering just under 1,500 e-mails and a load of phone calls. 80% of these are related to the upcoming IKF World Classic Tournament. So if we have not had a chance to get back to you yet after leaving a phone message or your e-mail, be patient, we will.

IKF WORLD CLASSIC QUESTIONS...
For questions about the upcoming IKF World Classic Tournament we ask that you use e-mail (IKF World Classic Tournament Staff at WCStaff@ikfkickboxing.com ) instead of calling us on the phone because we will get back to you quicker. Not that we don't like hearing your voice, but most phone calls have been taking a lot of time to cover questions that are already given on the "Questions and Answers About The Finals" page ( FOUND HERE ) that has a link from the main IKF World Classic Tournament web page.

For questions that need additional attention, please call us at 916-663-2467. However, if you are greeted with our answering machine, chances are we are on another call so we ask that you keep trying since those leaving messages may have to wait awhile for a return call due to the back-up of messages.

IKF WORLD CLASSIC NUMBERS
For those wondering about the registration numbers for this years 2010 IKF World Classic, rest assured, we think we may be able to break last years record. Last year, 4 days prior to the first deadline we had 42 registered fighters. So far, as of today, 4 days prior to this years first deadline of this Friday, June 4th, we are already over 70 registered fighters. We hope to have them posted by the end of the day tomorrow. The big record to beat though is the number of registered fighters by first deadline record which was SHATTERED last year with a record number of 167 registered fighters. "71" of those registrations came in on the final first deadline day. We are looking forward to yet another Great Year for the IKF World Classic Tournament!

More news and this past weekends results to be posted later today and tomorrow...
